Sounds like the Knicks are shopping Bobby Portis. He’s a 24 year old, 6’10” PF/C who can hit 3s and muscle up inside, has decent handles for a big, can take advantage of his dribble penetration against slower bigs. I remember him from Arkansas — plays with intensity. Makes 15 mil, with a team option next year, meaning he can be viewed as an expiring contract if he doesn’t pan out. I liked him when he came out and I think he'd fit very well on our roster. Instant upgrade at PF over Grant, Semi or any of the wing types we have playing there now. Salary matches with Smart. Given it's the Knicks, maybe we could get them to throw in Dennis Smith - who's doing nothing for them now, or Frank Ntilikina. NY has 3 PGs, which is one too many.
Smart, Poirier and Semi for Portis and either Smith or Ntilikina. Portis helps us up front right now, and we can afford time to develop either incoming PG because Wanamaker and Waters give us decent backup PG depth. Semi isn't playing much; Poirier not at all; and Smart has to go if JB and JT are ever going to reach their potential.

Portis is expendable because Mitchell Robinson and Julius Randle are being groomed as the franchise’s future froncourt tandem. And with Marcus Morris bringing scoring, and Taj Gibson providing veteran stability, Portis’s playing time has become limited.
Mike Miller is the interim head coach, and we don’t know who their head coach will be going forward. Would NY want to trade for Smart to beef up their defense, since the league is so perimeter oriented now?
