The most polarizing Celtics player on our current roster.
Have at it folks.

I always worry when Smart hit his first shot, and even more when he hits his first three shots - as he did last night. Three shots, nine points. Nice, right? And then? ELEVEN misses in a row. We do NOT want Smart thinking he's a prime scoring option.
And even though he runs a decent pick and roll, and throws a good alley-oop to the roller, the offense stagnates when he runs it.
I continue to believe his defense is overrated. Yes, he makes the occasional great play that few other NBAers can make, but can he actually stop anyone, like Ish Smith, when they get going? The evidence is pretty clear that the answer is no.
Yes, Brad has to be saved from himself and Smart must be traded. Not holding my breath though unless Romeo comes on and forces Danny to make room for him somehow.

I think the biggest problem is not having all our guys healthy. There's no doubt, offensively, we're top heavy. Got 4 great offensive players and then a bunch of limited offensive players (Wanamaker, Grant, Semi, etc).
Because of this, it seems if one of the core 4 is missing, Smart instantly is the next man up and takes 10+ shots. Since we've barely played with all our guys, it makes sense that he's actually shooting more this year than last year (10.7 a game to 7.1). That shouldn't happen considering we swapped Kyrie for Kemba and have a similar pecking order.
If the number were to go down to 7 shots a game, with this core 4 healthy, then I think he can be useful and less aggravating.
The worst is when it's him and Hayward + bench players. Hayward is the most deferential of the core 4 and this leads to "Kobe" Smart.
Otherwise, I am happy to see we're not fragile without him like we've seemed the last couple years. I'd be all for trading him, but I don't think it'll happen. He's not the most lucrative piece considering he's shooting 36% from the field and 31% from 3.

He shot 36% last year from 3, up from his career average of around 31%, and I thought maybe he'd turned a corner. But he's back to 31% this year. The thing that aggravates me to no end is that he seems entirely unaware of the areas from which he's effective. Give him the ball just behind the line, with his body moving into the shot, and he's actually pretty good. But he insists on taking deep 3s, from 3 or more feet behind the arc, and he's maybe 1 for 57 on those, or fallaway 3s, on which he's 1 for 93. (made up stats but you get the drift. He's pretty good in and around the paint and should be able to bully most PGs when he takes it in there, but he just doesn't do it enough.
I love the guy's effort and heart, but I just don't know you can win with players who make so many dumb plays.

He has to know his role. I’m sure if he played his physical defense, and on offense he just kept the ball moving, no one would complain. But when he tries to be a difference maker, he goes beyond his limitation, and that’ll neutralize any good he does on the court.
Brad, and Celtics fans in general, appreciate his hustle.

Could not help to see what trades might work. :-)
Smart and Poirier to Minn. for Dieng. Not only does it give us a physical, inside presence, but Dieng is shooting .373 from behind the arc and .344 for his career. So we match up better with bigs and improve our 3 pt shooting.
Not holding my breath, but did see the other day he scored 22 and hit 4-5 from 3 in a game KAT missed. Bet Celtic twitter would go nuts with that trade.

Another game that further proves that a team can't win with him as a major piece because his offense is just so pathetic. He had his good two or three offensive games for the year in a row, one it us back to 3-13 and 1-7 from three Marcus leafing us to another terrible loss to the scrubs from LA playing in the big easy.

3-13, but really 2-13 because his first shot was a 3 that banked in, clearly by accident. Trade him to the Patriots. He'd be a great strong safety.

If I am an opposing coach, I leave Smart WIDE open every play from the outside. He is an average (36%) 3-point shooter at best.

Now he is publicly criticizing Theis offense. He isn't in a position to criticize anyone's offense. Yes he is shooting a career high of 35% from theee which still isn't good and 38% overall which is not good at all.
Someone as in Kemba needs to out him in his place and get him to shut up and play his role which means to stop shooting and concentrate on playing defense and running the offense with the second team.

Am I the only one that thinks Smart has put on some bad covid weight? Anyone else seeing it? He doesn't look to me like he's in good shape, which might be why PP is outplaying him
