We’re 4-1, winning 4 in a row after dropping an opening night game at Philly, having beaten Milwaukee rather convincingly, and yet I can confidently say there are 3 reasons why we’re going to be a scary (good) team, much more than we are now.
For one, Carsen Edwards has yet to awaken. His shooting and scoring ability is no fluke — he’s just apprehensive about pulling the trigger with full assurance that he should. Once he knows he’s more than a rookie, but an integral part of our success, and that his coach and teammates are giving him the green light to take open shots, he’ll be a consistent weapon for us.
Next, we haven’t had a game yet when we shot the ball well. Our shooting percentages, especially early in the game, have been horrendous. That has prevented us from building and sustaining leads. We have too many capable scorers, and the willingness to share the ball, to be shooting so poorly. When our offense finally clicks, and our shots start falling more frequently, we’re going to see dominance.
Finally, Jayson Tatum is only 21 years old. Let that sink in for a second — he’s only 21, and we’re seeing him emerge as our go to scorer. We’re saying he reminds us of Paul Pierce. He has poise and moxie of an experienced All-Star. Just wait till he’s 27 and entering his prime! But even this year, it’s not out of the question to think he’ll play at an All-Star level. I’m fairly sure he’s going to convert at the basket more (I remember Rondo had the same criticism, and ge becane an excellent finisher). By midseason, I predict Tatum will our best player.
This team can be a really good team, and in spite of not having a great situation at Center, could be the best team in the East when these 3 things happen.
