I’m sayin’ it right now, we are going to be eastern conference champs. The Bucks and the Sixers will be scratching their heads because they, and mostly everyone else, are saying they'll be champs.
The reasons are simple
- we have a team full of determined “ego-less” players who only care about winning
- we have a deep team with 10 contributing players every game
No one will care about their scoring averages, or who’ll get the final shot. All anyone will care about is the right person taking the best shot, whoever that may be. I believe this team has the makeup and the coach to make this a reality. Offensively, we’ll be tough to defend against just because of how many quality scorers we have, who are smart and willing passers, but can go isolation when need be.
And to think of our depth, assuming our rookies can contribute (which I believe they can), no team can match our depth.
Starting 5:
Kemba
Hayward
Tatum
Grant Willilams
Kanter
2nd Unit:
Smart
Carsen Edwards
Jaylen
Theis
Poirier
That starting 5 will prove to be one of the league’s best once they gel. Grant Williams is a miniature Al Horford, who plays more physical, like a middle linebacker. Kanter isn’t a defensive liability like some are making him out to be. His rebounding and interior scoring are going to be refreshing for Celtics’ fans. But of course the main draw is going to be the trio of Kemba-Hayward-Tatum. It’s going to be fun watching these three facilitate the offense.
But then you get to the bench where Smart and Jaylen are the anchors. Both are poised to come into their own this season (year 4 for Brown, year 5 for Smart) and have big impact off the bench. Add in Daniel Theis who looked good off the bench last year (after teturning from his injury), and Vincent Poirier, who will be counted on to use his 7 foot frame with long arms to be a defensive presence in the painted area and we have solid depth upfront. But just wait till Carsen Edwards adjusts to the NBA and becomes comfortable with Brad’s role for him — sharp shooter off curls / screens. He’s going to be a dynamic scorer off the bench, bringing tons of energy along with Smart. And they’ll harass backcourts into turnovers.
Gosh, I’m so excited about this team! They’ll be more unified than the IT led team, and make more use of their talents than the Kyrie led teams. This is going to be Brad’s best team yet.
