Celtics sign 6'11" French center Vincent Poirier to a two year minimum contract. They also sign Theis to a 2 year, 10 million contract with early bird rights.

Celtics big rotation: -Theis for pick & pop or 5-out offense -Semi for defending non 7’ bigs/switch schemes -Kanter for PnR and post mismatch offense. -Poirier for defending good PnR teams w/ beast centers. -Time Lord for spanking 2nd units w/ small guards. -Yabu for archery

Although Theis isn’t an All-Star, or even a starter, I’m glad to have him back. He and Semi need to step up this year though, and really produce whenever they step onto the court.
Hoping this Poirier kid (only 25) can pick up the speed of the NBA quickly. He’s got good size and agility (and some coordiation — likes to dunk with his left hand, which is harder than most think).

BTW, I read a crazy number somewhere. Philly is spending $57 mil next year on their Bigs. In contrast we are spending $8 mil. Actually, with Theis it’ll be 13 mill.

I am glad to have Theis back and hope he has a bounce back year. If we end up not bringing Mook back, it would open minutes at the 4 for him. I could see him playing next to Kanter, provide some D to complement Kanter's offense.

I know he can block some shots, but I want to see him own the boards a bit more.

I thought Theis was one of best bargains in the NBA the past 2-years. I think the knee injury slowed him down somewhat last year. $5million is still a bargain.

Theis was/is a great pickup.
I'm rooting for Tacko and Carsen the most though.

I got to watch highlights of Poirier. I think he is an advanced Robert Williams, without the athleticism. A 2-year minimum contract is low risk, high reward.

Someone may want to fact check this, but I read Poirier has only started playing basketball at the age of 17. He’s only 25, so he’s still learning the nuances of the game. Learning the finer points and technique of playing the 5 could take him to another level.
