Among the names we are rumored to be interested in is Clint Capela — a lob dunking expert, rebounding force and shot blocker.
But he’s a poor free throw shooter, is an ineffective scorer outside of the paint, and hasn’t shot a 3 pt shot in his lifetime. And I’m pretty sure passing is not in his resume either.
So why do we have an interest in such a limited basketball player who makes 18 mil per year?

I've always thought of him as a very efficient player because he doesn't take shots he can't make and I assume he's gotten better as his [HASH]s and minutes have gone up. He's only 25. He coexisted with at least two major stars and a minor one.
Also I don't see his Ft percentage as uncommonly horrible for a big. It was over 63% last year.
Also 18mill per year is a bargain in the NBA for a player like this. Evan Turner makes that. Horford made way more than that last year and so did Gordan.

If Smart is going to be the PG I don't want another limited offensive player getting a lot of minutes. Teams will just pack the lane and dare us to shoot.

There you go, that’s what I’m thinking as well. With the emphasis on Hayward, Tatum, maybe Jaylen, and eventually Romeo to be facilitators, the object is to run them off of screens and allow them to spot scoring opportunities — whether it be their own, a teammate waiting for a pass on the elbow, or a big man trailing the play waiting for a lob (or a big man sneaking in on the baseline as the facilitators drive and suck defenders towards them). Capela and Robert Williams are identical players — their strength on offense is to score near the basket on assisted plays. We seen Horford finish a boatload of lob dunks last year (much more than any other season I can remember). Capela is a greater lob threat than Horford ever was. So we load up on guys who can knock down perimeter jumpers (that’s why we nabbed Carsen Edwards), as well as human pogo sticks who can finish lob plays in the paint (RWill, maybe Capela). And the key component is the ball handler (and the preference is 6’6” - 6’8” versatile wings) who is skilled to facilitate the offense and make the right reads. We got those types of plyers now in Hayward, Tatum, Romeo and possibly Jaylen (I’m hoping Jaylen can turn himself into one).

If Smart is going to be the PG I don't want another limited offensive player getting a lot of minutes. Teams will just pack the lane and dare us to shoot. Smart would be part of the trade to get him to match his salary. I would gladly take Capella over Smart just because he won't be won't take ridiculous shots and waste possessions. Not to mention Capela is the shot blocker that we have missed for about a decade. He would also fit in perfectly with ball movement offense as doesn't demand the ball so there are still shots for our forwards. We would still need to get another center after trading Baynes. That is why theoretically we could sign the free agent center from Orlando (have no idea how to spell his name) and then trade for Capella and still have money to sign a starting pass first PG. That is the best case scenario, but the way this offseason has gone I wouldn't expect it too, hopefully our luck will change.

Good point about Smart having to be part of any trade for Capella.
Regarding the offseason, no it certainly isn't the "keep Kyrie and trade for AD" scenario that most thought was Plan A, but I also don't think Danny was caught completely by surprise by Kyrie deciding to leave or even Al deciding to do the same. I have to believe he's had talks all season with both guys and has contingency plans. He's just not going to, or can't, tell us what they are yet.
Losing Kyrie seems like bad luck, particularly if we get nothing back, but if the relationships he had with players, coaches and even staff were as bad as some reporting indicates, then we're better off without him. Not more talented, but better off.

I like the point that he doesn't take shots he isn't supposed to. He seems to be a guy who is good with playing a role on a team and he gives us something we haven't really had in a long time (and wish Robert Williams could become).
Money and cap is always a give or take. You either got the favorable rookie deals that are time bombs, got older/limited players for cheap, got solid/good players for a lot of money, or semi-allstars and above for the max. I'd rather play Capela than Smart, but only because one seems to understand what he can and cannot do better than the other.
