We are not going to win with Pierce and Ricky dominating the ball so much. They are scorers, not playmakers. Though they do get a good amount of assists, they also rack up way too many turnovers, and its killing us. We need a true playmaker creating plays for them (as well as for Jefferson) and take the ball out of Piece's and Ricky's hands if they aren't in position to score.
On top of this, we are not going to win if Pierce is our leading rebounder and if Ricky Davis is our best assist man. They are scorers and we need to put them in the best position to score easy baskets. A big man needs to be our best rebounder and Delonte needs to be the leading assist man.
And lastly, we are not going to win if our defense doesn't improve. Its pretty horrendous and we can't get any defensive stops.
All this losing is bad for the health. Either Ainge is working to try and correct these problems or he's sinking the ship in order to get a high lottery pick.

delonte wold be excellent substitute pg but unfortunately we don't have a good playmaker on the team. frankly i would like to see the celts trade for one. drafting a pg would mean so much lost time...again

Not to mention that there aren't many franchise PG's coming out of college (we got this same topic going on in Esco's thread, so I won't divulge on it).
Our lack of better interior defenders leaves us at a disadvantage almost every game. Fortson killed us last night. Even Nick Collison made us look weak. We don't have enough size, bulk, muscle, or talent up front. We have some, but not enough.

and what we do have is sitting on the bench for most of the game while our soft perimeter centers are getting the bulk of the minutes.

Size isnt' the problem it's the coaching that's the problem for this team. Who the hell plays small ball against a team that's killing you on the boards? Its not complicated to figure out maybe if we have Perk or Al underneath the hoop maybe we would fair better on the defensive boards?
I don't think this team is going to get any better unless the coaching improves or Al Jef becomes a beast to be reckon with.

I'm beginning to think a team only needs one big man who can shoot from the outside and a bunch that can go in. We have three that shoot from the outside and 1 and a half that go in. That means no rebs and no blocks. And of course the ones that will go in get minimal PT so that means even less blocks and rebs and dunks and put backs. When Eric Williams was a young sprig he was waaaaaayyyy better inside than Raef or Blount and that is sad.

Heck we were better off with ViP, Blount, Tony Battie, Eric Williams, Kenny Anderson, and Eric Strickland and Coach Obie. Pierce and Walker ran the team effectively back in the day. It was unorthodox basketball but we managed to win games, I felt we had no business winning.

ANd as a corallary, we screwed our future in the 2001 draft. Our strategy was to offer our three no 1's for Jermaine O'Neal and that fell through. With better preparation, we could have had Joe Johnson, Zach Randolph, and Tony Parker. But unfortunately, Obie might not have let them on the court. Things got worse with the trade for Vin Baker Then Ainge decided to blow up the team and trade Walker, Delk, Eric Williams, Battie, and Milt Palacio for Raef, three No 1's (Perkins, Allen and West), an extra no 2 (Gomes), and RD. My honest evaluation is that we lost at PF (Raef is worse than Walker), but gained in backcourt talent. Ainge is correct in building through the draft but resigning Blonut was a blunder. Mihm would have made a nice backup center.

I am thinking we should make a rule on celticsgreen.com where one shall not refer to the 2001 draft. Yes, it was a disaster. But, referencing back to this, Len Bias, and Reggie Lewis, doesn't make the record look any better. Move foward.

Again, we are not going to go anywhere with Pierce and Ricky dominating the ball so much. In tonight's loss to the Warriors, Pierce and Ricky combined for 8 turnovers. Add in Blount, and the 3 of them combined for 12 TO's. That's ideally how much we should be commiting as a team!!!
Ricky is upsetting me by the amount of dribbling he's doing. This is not a strength of his. He's not a good ballhandler and he forces things by putting the ball on the floor. Got to get him back to playing like Rip Hamilton like he sort of was doing at the beginning of the year.
Delonte had 7 assists and only 1 turnover. We need more of this and less of Pierce, Ricky, and Blount handling the passing duties.

Who the hell plays small ball against a team that's killing you on the boards? Exactly JHVOS. I am of the traditional thinking that defense wins championships. (We can't even win games right now) I like the uptempo style that Ainge has envisioned but Doc needs to learn that defense is what helps you win down the stretch. The Pistons are a good offensive team, but they win with their defense and rebounding. We cannot defend guys like Fortson, Collison, Murphy, and Diogu with guys like Blunt, Raef, or Scalabrini, or rebound for that matter. I think Doc needs to change up the lineup. I know he said he is against starting Perk and Al, but you know what Doc, we are losing. Make a change. We should start: Perk-5 Al-4 Pierce-3 Ricky-2 Delonte-1 I would even think about giving Ricky a rest and start: Perk-5 Al-4 Gomes-3 Pierce-2 Delonte-1 Something needs to be done. This defense is the worst I have ever seen since I have been a Celtic fan, and this includes the Celtics teams that featured defensive stoppers such as Brett Szabo and Marty Conlon! -esco

lately the most annoying trend is that doc seems to have lost his players

He really has. I think he knows it too. As soon as things start going bad, you can feel that there's no commander on this ship. The players not calling a timeout to set up the last play is pretty significant. Maybe the players didn't hear Doc tell them that in the huddle, but I don't know how much stock I'd put into that.
I don't necessarily think all of the players are against Rivers. I feel Delonte is pretty loyal to Doc still.
