That is what I want to know. What kind of team does Brad want? Which players do Brad specifially want on his team? Does he want Kyrie back? Does he want Ainge to get AD? Durant?
As much as we want the players to learn, and grow from this past (ugly) season, it’s also important for Brad to come back next year an even better coach because of what he’s had to painfully endure this year.
I don’t know if he’s vocalized to Ainge in the past his opinion of players and who he wants on the team — but I hope he does so this offseason. Like, if he doesn’t want Kyrie back, I’d want him to make that clear to Danny. Or if he thinks Jaylen is not a right fit for his team, then be honest with Danny, and let him try to move him. And if he thinks Kris Middleton is exactly the type of player he wants playing in his system, just shoot that straight into Danny’s ear.
In the recent interview Ainge had, he said they (he and Brad) knew before the season started that this year was going to be challenging. He sort of painted the picture that players needed to buy into their roles, and that was going to prove to be a great challenge (which he said most didn’t step up and own — except for Hayward and Jaylen).
Well, they knew ahead of time that this season was going to be challenging (I don’t think any of us foresaw a problem). They had a hunch this could be a disaster. We can avoid a similar meltdown by avoiding this kind of situation again. Don’t throw 10 hungry lions into a cage when there’s only a slab of meat. Trade away certain players to trim the fat.
Brad’s had success with lesser talent, so it’s obvious he knows how to coach. So Danny needs to get Brad’s type of players — and avoid the ones who aren’t.
