A lot of people have compared the two. There STATS this playoff are close too. However, Lillard is considered a "no brainer" extension, while Irving has flags. Discuss.

I'll preface this with - I think Kyrie is the better player and Lillard has plenty of flags where he seems to falter when someone gameplans against him (Pelicans last year and Warriors this year - two sweeps). Lillard didn't find a way to be effective. Pure basketball, I think Kyrie is a better player than Lillard.
However, as someone who knows nothing about them personally and can go only with what he sees during a game:
Lillard lets CJ Mccollum take the final possession and stands as a decoy willingly during Game 7 of the Semis. Lillard seems like a happy guy, shows lots of energy, and seems to want to be a lifer in Portland with a team that has had failures and doesn't shy away from it.
Kyrie yells at GH when he doesn't get the ball forced to him for the last shot of the game in the regular season. Passive aggressively swipes at all the young guys in the media and laments how difficult things are.
That's the difference in a nutshell.

Pretty much, Kyrie is the better player but not worth the drama that he brings if this is how he is going to act. He is gave us LeFlop drama without the LeFlop results. You are willing to put up with more crap if you get results, which make Kyrie a high risk, high reward type guy.
Lillard who isn't nearly as talented on the court in natural talent or basketball IQ is the safe pick and you just have to hope he can figure out how to get away from double teams and get more guys involved which is how GSW made their second half runs. He would keep trying to out dribble a double team and would either end up taking a bad shot or finally passing it to someone but with no time to do anything which made them take a bad shot.

A lot of good takes. Similar players, however Damian is drama free though will be a super max contract where Kyrie is a diva and only a max contract.

Supermax is crazy money. If I understand it, something like $47 mil/yr. Doesn't leave much for the rest of the roster. I guess it's ok if you've built your team and are willing to pay to keep it together, but it could cripple you otherwise. IMO there is a tiny handful of guys who are worth that kind of money, and a ton of guys making huge money who aren't. I'd say about half of the following list of Top 20 paid NBA players aren't worth anything like what they're being paid. hoopshype.com/salaries/players/

Wow. That list is not a good look for Hayward. I really do hope he can be himself this year and prove us wrong. As it stands, I'd rank his and John Wall as the worst contracts out there (for players that can currently play ex. Melo/Bosh).
Also, Durant @ 11? Crazy discount for GS. People only talk about how he wants to leave, but bravo to him for taking less so they could even exist. Might be the "easy" way out, but that looks like a fun team to play for.
Chris Paul's contract is also a sleeper bad deal. He's already 34 and struggles to be healthy when it matters most and that deal only goes up.

Paul is the worst contract by far, he hasn't accomplished anything in his career in the playoffs. He is some supposed great "leader" that has guys hate playing with and then blames his former teams for all of his failures. It isn't surprising that the only two teams that have never made the WCF's have him in common in the Pelicans and Clippers.

Ironic, Kyrie and Damian both were named to the 2018/2019 All-NBA second team.

This supermax is crazy money. Offering Lillard close to 48 million per year? Look, he's good, but not great.
I don't want to offer Kyrie that kind of money either.

The max contract/super max contracts is because CP3, Lebron, and Melo were running the NBA players. They wanted to be paid closer to their worth, which was accomplished. However, they missed negotiating the point in the CBA, which makes building a winner within the salary cap more difficult. I would not be surprised if in the next CBA, the NBA players negotiate that a portion of a max, or super max contract not be included in the salary cap.
