With Danny Ainge suffering his second heart attack, not only are we concerned about his health going forward, but also who will he the next one to take over for him if he decides to step away from the stress that comes along with this his job. Will his disciple take the batton and keep this organization moving forward?
Mike Zarren is a young guy who has buzz around the league, who has been aougjt by other teams to he their GM. I know he’s a really smart numbers guy, but how is he with talent evaluation? how is his communication / negotiation skills? does he have the demeanor to be a competent GM? does he have the fortitude to commit to his vision, and the know how to manipulate situations to get what he wants (like how to milk other GMs)?

Harvard graduate. Life long Celtics fan. The organization will be in good (great) hands.

From what I have heard of his reputation and qualifications, the Celtics would be in good hands with Zarren if Danny decides to ride off into the sunset to spend more time with his family. Although it seems as though he is back at it and feeling good and planning to be here for the long run - at least for now.

Watching and listening to him in interviews, I see a fan, more than a GM. He doesn’t strike me as a guy who can do heavy negotiating with other GMs.

I always thought he was more of a cap guru than a talent evaluator.

I always thought he was more of a cap guru than a talent evaluator. And that’s another question to ponder. But there’s got to be something right? For Zarren to he Ainge’s right hand man, and for other teams interested in hiring as GM?

True. Another question is whether, as a life-long Celtics fan, he'd even want to work for another team.

True. Another question is whether, as a life-long Celtics fan, he'd even want to work for another team. I think that’s why he turned down the interview with Philly last summer (think that was it). It seems he is being groomed to be Ainge’s replacement. I just hope he’s competent like Danny.

If he truly is the heir apparent to Danny, I'm sure that they know he would be up to the job. He's been with the team and worked with Danny long enough to know how to do the job in my opinion. If not, I don't see them giving him the job.

That’s what my head tells me. I guess he doesn’t look the part, is all.

Ainge, unhesitantly affirmed that if he had to step away from his role, that he’s got an amazing crew he knows can take his place and do an excellent job.
That statement was quick coming out of his mouth, and he said it convincingly with endorsement. I do believe that Danny believes in Mike Zarren, and probably to a lesser extent, his son Austin.
