As we've had time to digest the season and come to terms with our disappointment, it's time to hand out final grades to our players, as well as give your opinion on what they need to work on over the summer.
I give Jaylen a solid B+. I could have given him an A- had he found his shooting stroke earlier. He really rounded into form the second half of the season, especially down the road. He accepted his role as a 3-D player, and did a terrific job. He admitted this season was tough, but to his credit he didn't complain, but showed growth and maturity by going out there and performing however his team needed him to.
Jaylen is still more an athlete than a basketball player at this point (though he's been coming around in this area). I'd like him to spend the summer working on actual moves he'll be using in game situations. He doesn't need the flashy dribbling. With his quick first step, and a body built to take contact, Jaylen needs to learn how to power dribble into his comfort area, and then take higher percentage shots around 7 feet.

I'm thinking more along the lines of B-/C+, mostly because there wasn't a whole lot of growth from year 2 to year 3 of his career. I would agree that he looked a lot better in the second half of the season, but that was mostly because he was so bad in the first half.
I will say this though. A year ago I thought Tatum clearly had the higher upside. Now I'm not so sure. Jaylen has superior athleticism, and did show a strong finishing ability, a mean streak (which I like), and some touch on turnarounds from 15 feet or so. He also shot over 40% from 3 in the last couple of months. To my surprise I think he has a better understanding of what is a good shot than Tatum at this point.
If we had a point guard who excelled at getting other players the ball in the right spots for them he could really take off.

That is why I want to keep Brown in any potential traded for AD. He is a 3 and D guy who can do more when asked too due to injury or by matchup.

I think B+/A- for the season. He had a rough start and struggled to find his role at first. After being a starter last season, he just couldn't find his role off the bench at first. But, as the season wore on he got better and at the end of the season he was really good. I think we see more growth to next season. He grew up a lot over the course of the season.

I say C. I can't forget about his first half of the year where he looked horrible. 1/2 bad 1/2 good is just an average year. I like him though and hope he continues to get better as he's always showing new moves more so than any player I can think of.

B+. I thought he played well, almost exactly after it was announced he had been playing with a wrist injury. Also, he improved his handles.
Opportunities to improve: 1. Free throw shooting. Made him somewhat a liability in a close game. 2. Moving without the ball. W/ Kyrie as the main guard, I could not tell if the plan was to spread the floor, and stay still because of ISO Kyrie. 3. Continue improving handles. Much better job attacking the paint, and not losing the ball this year.
