Instead of comparing Delonte to a high level PG like Jason Kidd or Steve Nash, or future big time PG's like Hinrich and TJ Ford, I picked Luke Ridnour of Seattle. Ridnour is not a big time PG but he is definitely a guy who can run a team and get his teammates easy shots. So I'm comparing Delonte and him to see which PG would be better for our team--a high assist PG or a do-it-all PG.
Points
LR: 10.5 ppg
DW: 9.1 ppg
Both of them are capable of doing more damage on the offensive end, but Ridnour just eeks by Delonte here.
Rebounds
LR: 2.5 rpg
DW: 3.7 rpg
Initially, I thought it'd be more of a blowout, but Delonte beats out Ridnour by slightly more than 1 rebound a game.
Assists
LR: 6.8 apg
DW: 3.9 apg
No question about this one. I've been a fan of Ridnour's passing ability since he was playing for Oregon U. And the scary thing is he's got more room to go as a passer. This is primarily the reason why I like this kid.
Turnovers
LR: 2.0
DW: 1.8
Delonte beats out Ridnour by 0.2, but we must factor in the amount of assists both PG's dish out per TO, and when you do this, Ridnour has the better ratio.
Steals
LR: 2.0 spg
DW: 1.1 spg
I thought it'd be closer because Delonte gets his hands on a lot of steals too, but Ridnour beats him out here.
Blocks
LR: 0.3 bpg
DW: 1.0 bpg
This should come to no surprise for any fan who has seen Delonte play. Delonte is one of the best shot blocking PG's in the game today. His timing and ability to get his hands on the ball is incredible.
FG%
LR: 36.4%
DW: 46.2%
This may be a landslide win for Delonte, but Ridnour is not that bad a shooter. 36.4% is really low and I'd bet that his FG% will increase drastically in a matter of time. Nice to see Delonte raising his FG% after being in the 30's at the beginning of the season.
FT%
LR: 94.2%
DW: 87.5%
How often will an 88% FT shooter take second place? When the guy in front of him shoots a whopping 94%. This is the reason why I strongly feel that Ridnour's FG% will rise. Good free throw shooters tend to be good shooters as well.
3pt%
LR: 26.2
DW: 27.1
Though Delonte wins the battle, I'd like to see his % rise up above the 35% mark.
Team PPG
SEA: 100.9
BOS: 96.6
Going by these basic stats, Delonte beats out Ridnour in 5 of 9 categories. Ridnour clearly wins the assist battle (and it'll be more apparent the more seasoed Ridnour becomes) but Delonte is a better rebounder and shot blocker.
Based on these evidences, which type of PG would be better for this team?
