The Spurs are really an exceptional organization nearly at every facet. They've got one of the best head coaches in Pop, but they've also got one of the very best talent evaluators in RC Buford. The Spurs have been a model team for decades because they continually put out competitive rosters, whether they have a superstar (David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard) or not. And this is because they always find good, productive players no matter where they draft (usually late in the rounds).
Buford says he looks for fit, guys who fit with what the team stands for (I'm paraphrasing), team first players.
He doesn't have the luxury of drafting the cream of the crop talent -- he often takes lesser known prospects who somehow fit right into Pop's system. Guys like Danny Green, Patty Mills, Derrick White, and Davis Bertans are just examples of no-name guys becoming important players in the Spurs' system.
This is what I hope we also incorporate. Danny is very successful in his own right, but he does like to take chances and hit for the fences (which can be good, but not good as well). Sometimes, a single up the middle is what's needed.
There are many blue chip upperclassmen who have little room left to develop, but are solid already (Malcom Brogdon types). I'd like to see Ainge grab one in this draft.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaiYJpo2Gc8I think it speaks wonders that people at the Spurs organization know their role. Hearing Pop talk about giving all the credit to R.C. (even if he's obviously joking about not knowing the players he drafts) shows that he really lets RC do what he does best and he focuses on doing what he does best (how can I coach these guys). They're obviously on the same page on the types of players as they know they'll be coachable, willing to learn/work, and can thrive in Pop's system. I feel Brad and Pop have similar values in the types of guys they draft (showing grit, determination, etc.). I also think Ainge and Brad have the right relationship to mimic what I said above - where everyone can be effective in their role with a common goal/model in mind.

RC Buford is great, top-3 GMs. He gets players that POP can use. Danny, is also great, top-3 as well. He gets Brad Stevens type of players. Ex: defense, can play multiple positions, high basketball IQ.
