Bol Bol is an intruiting talent, due to his superior height (7’2”)and length (7’8” wingspan), and actual skills to go along with them. Most guys that tall are not supposed to be nimble, or do much of anything but block shots. But Bol Bol is fairly coordinated, and moves around quite well. He’s even got a nice first step, and will bust out crossovers at times.
But those are inconsequential to me — what I like about Bol is he’s great at blocking shots and he can knock down 3’s. He’s actually got a nice shooting stroke from all over the court.
Last year, Mo Bamba was a draft prospect with similar attributes. But IMO, Bol has a more polished and refined game than Bamba, and should be more successful in the NBA.
Of course, the stress facture in his foot is a concern. But that’s a gamble we should consider (if our doctors don’t feel it’s a great risk). We need a shot blocking presence, and Bol could be that guy. Robert Williams could be that guy, but we can’t assume he will be (plus, he doesn’t shoot 3’s like Bol does).
