Especially if Artest thought Green hurled a beer at him. In all seriousness, I think one of the reasons that Raef plays is the fact of his contract.

I'm not saying Dwight Howard isn't better than Al J. He is. I'm saying since Doc clearly won't play the better player in favor of vets I would assume he wouldn't play the younger guy on any team if he had a vet option. The only reason Delonte West is starting is cause there isn't a vet who sucks and dogs it to start ahead of him.
In terms of Gerlad Green I don't expect him to beat out anybody, except maybe Gomes. Have you ever seen a player who got more hype and less PT? Seriously he has set the all time hype/PT ratio.

Tony Allen started in front of Ricky Davis last year. Are we to think that Allen beat out Ricky?
Gerald Green has tons more potential than Ryan Gomes. But he won't beat out Gomes this season because he has a lot of seasoning to do before reaching the level Ryan Gomes is at right now. Does this mean that Ryan Gomes is the better player? Yes, right now, this is exactly what it means. Does it mean that Ryan Gomes will be the better player in a couple of years? There's no gaurantee, but odds are very much stacked in favor of Green flying pass Gomes on the depth chart.
Honestly, Eja, I'm a bit confused as to why you are having such a hard time with the concept of potential, and developing potential. When a newborn baby is born, will you be disappointed if he can't do a simple oil change on a car? Or if he can't keep up with a walking 5 year old kid when racing for a cookie on the table? Using religion as an example, Christ was born with fanfare (a multitude of heavenly hosts appeared to the shepherds and wise men brought the babe gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh) but he didn't perform his first miracle until he was 30 years old. Talk about hype/PT ratio.

More hype, less potential...Kwame Brown. What a f-cking bust, or rather a "head case."

SO ARE WE GOING TO COMPETE THIS YEAR OR SHOULD I THROW MY SUPPORT TO THE MAVERICKS AND GRIZZLIES? ? Mavs nor the Grizzles are going to win the championship... So, why bother supporting them?

Yep, and here's a case where I'm not all about the hype. I remember seeing Kwame in the summer league game when the Wizards took us on, and I was not impressed with him at all. I don't care much for 7 footers who like to shoot the ball more than play in the post. Sure he had nice handles for a big guy and his shooting was pretty good coming out of high school, but he didn't have that moxie about him that made me take notice. Without the moxie (same relation to confidence), a player will just be about potential.
Gerald Green is not a bust in the making like Kwame (or Kedrick). He has that moxie, that confidence in his game to take his potential and make it a realization.

Seeing as how the time frame for saviing man kind is different than an NBA team title time frame I'm not going to analyse whether Jesus was a late blooming messiah or if God should have drafted someone else like Mohammed or Buddah.
No I don't expect a baby to be able to do much, but I wouldn't hire a baby to fix my car either. Now if someone told me the hospital was hiring a genious Doogie Howseresque doctor I'd actually expect that doctor to be able to do his job. I know that's a revolutionary concept, but I'm just not comfortable with the idea of the kid doctor with so much potential screwing up for 5 years before he becomes the best doctor ever. I'd pass on him and pick a doctor that went to med school.
Tony Allen did something in his first year I expect all good draft picks to do. Show something. Contribute. That's all I expect. Ok so kwame didn't have moxie. Does that mean Jameer Nelson or all those other seniors and juniors didn't have it too? What if a senior has moxie? I would think by that logic we should take him.
What if it became ok to draft kids in the 6th grade. There actually is a top ranked 6th grader out there. I guess we should draft the kid and wait like 7 years right? I mean the kid has upside. Following the upside logic we should never draft a player we know will be good if there's a reasonable chance that in 4 years some other player will be somewhat better. I don't think that's a good strategy and I don't think it really works out too well.

Exactly. So why even bother looking for a baby to fix your car? We didn't draft Gerald Green expecting him to be a contributor this year, so why should it bother you that he's not ahead of Ryan Gomes right now?
Now say that you have a bunch of high schoolers in shop class and you see one guy who just started getting intersted in shop work. You can see a lot of potential in this kid in the way he uses his head, the precision in his handiwork, and the attention to detail he has. You don't all of a sudden ask him to put together a NASA spaceship from scratch do you? No, you let this kid develop and nurture hiim along the way.

Ok, did Tony Allen show as much talent, skills, and potential as a high school player that Gerald displays right now? I doubt it because Tony went to JUCO in his first 2 years after graduating high school before transfering to OSU. So why aren't you giving Gerald some time to prove that he can become better than Tony, or Ryan Gomes, when he reaches their age?

I shoud back up and make something clear. I'm not trying to harp on Gerlad Green. I think he can be good and probably will be. At his spot in the draft the only other players I thought would be ok picks and make sense for the Celts were maybe Wayne Simien, Jarret Jack and Julius Hodge. And I didn't really see the possibiliy of any of them becoming Hall of Famers. I just thought Green might be really good pretty fast. A little better than JR Smith, and after seeing him in the summer league I still think that. My knock here isn't against Green. It's against the coaching staff for not playing him at all or giving him a chance. I'm not saying we need him really bad, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to just stash him away. It irks me.

Now that the "conspiracy" theory is in full-effect (which is inventive by the way), this "stashing" away of players can't be real. Players learn the most in game situations, and waiting for the 'second' contract, well these players will not be seasoned to win a championship.
