... of why this team has seemed reluctant to play lately (aside from tonight's win against the Warriors).
A couple of days ago, Raef had a few comments in the Herald in which he voiced his feelings on his new role off the bench. Never did he blame, or bad mouth Rivers, but what came out was that he wasn't sure what his role is now, but will keep trying hard whenever he gets onto the court.
Yesterday, Dickau had a few things to say, mainly regarding his upcoming surgery on his heel (out for the season with a ruptured achilles tendon). But he said that, for whatever reason, Doc went away from using him (like Raef, he was not blaming Doc).
So here, we have an example of 2 players who are not sure why their roles have diminished. This tells me that Doc is not communicating with them and telling them why he's using them less.
If you don't tell your players the reason for your actions, they may start losing their trust in you.
If Doc doesn't communicate with Perkins, he may lose him as well.

I wonder if Danny is forcing Doc's hand, and Doc doesn't feel comfortable saying his boss told him to play certain players?

I suppose it's possible that DA looks at the roster, sees no hall of famers and has told Doc to use this season as a "development" season, meaning hold the young good guys back so we can get a good draft pick. It's one of the only things I can think of. As I said before if Doc were coaching the Bulls Othella Harrington would be starting center and Frank Piatkowski would be starting pg. If it were the Orlando magoc Pat Garrity would be starting ahead of Dwight Howard and if he were coaching the Clippers they'd be as bad as ever.

I remember something Doc said after Blount's comments in the paper. Something like I'm the coach and I don't have to tell them why I don't play them. Doc gives mixed messages. On the one hand he is saying if they play defense and play well they get more time and then we have Perk playing very well and playing good defense and not getting more time. And Raef and Blount not playing great defense and still getting more playing time than Perk.
I don't think Doc is communicating with the players for what ever reason and none of them know their roles other than Ricky and PP. Chemistry and being comfortable in your role on a team is what makes for consistency and makes for great team play. Until Doc gets the rotations set and lets the players know their roles, we are going to be inconsistent.

Wasn't Doc axed by the magic as well?

I wondered about that myself. Could Ainge and Rivers be plotting to throw this season in order to get a higher draft pick? I mean, we could have 2 lottery picks this season (Lakers and ours). It makes you think when you consider the evidences. First off, Doc continues to brush off Perkins when he clearly helps out our anemic rebounding and weak interior defense. Secondly, he continues to play Ricky and Pierce excessive amounts of minutes, that looks to already be wearing them out. At this rate, they won't have much left in the tank for the second half.
But then I look at the other side of the picture and wonder if Doc and Ainge aren't on the same page.

Unless Doc does something defiant (Robert Horry like), he will not be fired.
Eja...if Doc was coaching Orlando, I would be amazed if Howard would be on the bench.

RR, just like we are amazed the way Perk and Al J are consistently passed over for never-beens like Raef and Blount? And the way Gerald Green has been passed over for Gomes and Reed?

Well, AJ & Perks (add in Green as well) weren't selected #1 overall in the draft, so there is not much of a comparison.
However, I as the fan would like to know why certain players are playing, and why certain players are sitting.

RR, by your logic Kwame Brown and Olowokandi should be getting tons of playing time, and we should have given more time to Pervis Ellison when we got him. Also by that logic a guy like Dwight Howard would play in front of a guy like Ben Wallace who wasn't drafted. Perk was a 1rst rounder and Blount wasn't.

Well, your stretching my logic a bit. Generally speaking, the number #1 pick is an impact player. In recent years, most people would say every year except those 2 drafts. I am thinking Danny is showcasing Raef, and Blount.

Right, but most of your lottery picks (like Al J) are impact guys too. I think Blount and Raef have been showcased as much as they can be showcased. I'm not sure why we have to keep showing their downfalls.

I know the debate isn't situated solely on these 2 players, but Eja, Dwight Howard is far more advanced than Al Jefferson right now. Its almost night and day when you compare the amount of polish they have in their games. Had Dwight Howard been on our team, I'm fairly confident that Doc would be starting him.
If you stick Gerald Green on the Magic roster, I doubt he'd be starting. The kid is really raw, and I mean in his game and body strength. He has some muscle definition, but not enough bulk to be able to take a bump from Pierce or Ron Artest (oooh, that would hurt).
