Brad tells how playing time will be decided

“…the idea that when you have a team back that was so good defensively that we don’t skip steps. I’d say that’s the No. 1 concern I’ve got. I’ve watched teams before have really good years and then kind of go through the motions on that end of the court. And we can’t do that.”

“Obviously everybody’s going to want to play,” he said. “And all the guys are saying the right things, because that’s who they are. They’re good people. They’re going to go out and compete and play hard, and they want to win first and foremost. But that doesn’t mean there’s not going to be times during the year where guys wish they were playing more.

It’s whoever plays the best together and everything else. I mean, the priority has got to be, from our standpoint, winning. And so that’s where you start with your decision-making, and guys that complement each other the best will find time together, and we’ll figure that stuff out.”

They are going to have to play tough defense and they are going to have to play well together.  Sounds like music to my ears.   Every coach starts the season saying how they are going to prioritize defense but most of them forget about that a couple of weeks in.  I don't think that Brad will do that.

It'll take a while to figure out who plays best with whom, who starts and who finishes games, so I expect to see a lot of different combos out there for the first couple of months, but Brad will figure it out. I'm not worried about guys slacking on D; the competition for minutes will take care of that.

Absolutely Jmost. That's the beauty of having a stacked roster with so many good and versatile players. There will be good competition for minutes at every position. Nobody dares slack off on defense or on effort and intensity.
