www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/24613847/jabari-bird-arrested-alleged-assault-strangling-kidnapping ESPN Boston Celtics guard Jabari Bird has been arrested after allegedly assaulting, strangling and kidnapping an unidentified person in a domestic incident Friday, according to Boston police. A Boston police spokesman said Bird is being "guarded by the Boston police at a local hospital" for evaluation. The spokesman said the victim had been taken to a different hospital due to the injuries. Bird, 24, is expected to appear in court Monday, where he will face charges of assault and battery, strangulation and kidnapping. The Celtics acknowledged in a statement that they were "aware of the incident" involving Bird and are "taking it very seriously." The Celtics drafted Bird with the 56th pick in the 2017 draft. The shooting guard spent his rookie season on a two-way contract before being signed to the active roster this summer.

He was arraigned today. He reportedly held the girl for 4 hours choking her 4 times, once until she passed out and he kicked her repeatedly in the stomach. She said when she left he was in a bad mental state and made sure he was safe. That would explain the hospital observation.
He said that the reports don't tell the whole story and that he hoped one day to be able to regain trust. He is stepping away from the Celtics for now to deal with his legal and medical problems.
Very sad.

Other than Rae Carruth .....or maybe I suppose Mike Tyson and Ben Rothlisburger.....it's tough for me to think of worse sports crime accusations.

This might be a landmark case for the NBA, because he can not perform his job. The closest case I am aware of is Royce Young, however Morrey circumvented the issue by trading him to PHI.

The Celtics were reportedly trying to get him help for mental issues before this assault. I can imagine that he will need more mental health help after the fact.
