Banks is not a good PG, guys. If you watch, all he does is excite fans because he scores. When was the last time anyone ever said, "wow, that was a smart decision by Banks"? Nowadays, everyone is into scoring. A player scores 30 pts and everyone goes wild. That's why there will continue to be Blonut supporters in Celtic Nation, despite him being a horrible rebounder and a weak defensive presence. Marcus Banks does not run a team well. He has no idea what to do. This is not to say that Delonte does, but he has a better idea. And here's another thing--Delonte has finished more plays off of penetrations than Marcus Banks. This year alone, Delonte has impressed me with his ability to look like a mini Manu Ginobli with his sweet left handed kiss off the backboard after getting to the front of the rim. Even though Marcus is tons quicker and more athletic, he's had trouble finishing layups in traffic. But here's the thing--Marcus Banks makes a better sparkplug scoring option off the bench than Delonte being a starting PG. In other words, Banks makes more of an impact off the bench than the impact Delonte makes as a starting PG. Derren, do you watch the games or do you go by stats? His first game back, Marcus went into the paint and had 3 assists. He may not be your 'ideal' passer or decision maker, he is still inconsistent. But West has proven to be a liability on D. His blocks are alright but he gets repeatedly beaten on the dribble. I rather have a PG who can defend and get some penetration than have one who depends on his shot to make an impact. If West is such a better PG, why does he have a similar assist to turnover ratio as banks and the same assists/48 minutes as Banks? Why doesnt he get to the line often? Why do opposing PGs have field days while being guarded by him? Last season, he was good beacuse he was making his shots. Now his shot is gone. He is a failed experiment. Danny better get a PG. Banks isnt the answer either, but he IS the better option.

I disagree that ALL that Banks can do is score. Although he is not your prototypical natural point guard, he is the best penetrator we have. I liken him to a poor man's Stephon Marbury on offense. He does look to score a lot, but he can get to the paint and turn the corner at will. No other point guard on our team can get to the rim like him.
I agree that he has trouble finishing. Delonte has him in that category, but I believe that is a height issue. Delonte is 6'4". Banks is around 6 foot.
If Banks were to be able to do what Greene did in preseason a lot more effectively, we would then have our point guard which is penetrating into the paint area, and dishing or kicking out either to Al, or Perk, Blount whoever or kicking it out to Paul ,Ricky, etc.
If I am Doc right now, you HAVE to teach him that. That is his strength, not finishing the layup, but dishing for the assists. Greene is good at that, but he is not as quick, as Banks, and is still young.
Delonte is good at that as well when he gets to the paint, but he rarely ever breaks his man off of the dribble. Banks is the best at that.
He isn't by any means our future point, but I really don't think our future point is on this team. Hopefully, I can be proven wrong and Orien will become that.

I have watched the games and think Delonte is better. he doesn't pressure as well but does everything else better. I agree Delonte doesn't have as much natural talent. The difference is that Delonte actually takes everything he does have and actually tries to be a pg and Banks doesn't. Banks tries to score. Then he tries to pressure the ball hoping to get a steal so he can get easy fast break points. That's not a pg. That's a very fast and short sg. Delonte is trying to be a hard working sg who passes. That makes him the better pg. Delonte is like Sherman Douglas. banks is like Chauncey Billups when Chauncey was aweful. Only Delonte has been here one and a half years, and Banks has been here 2 and a half.

That is a fair comparison eja. Delonte is definitely the smarter ballplayer.
I wish we could mesh the two together into one point guard. Delonte's b-ball IQ, height, determination, shooting, and Bank's natural athletic ability, speed, and defense. Basically sounds like Dwayne Wade.

How about this: both PG's have their own strengths and weaknesses and we'll just let time figure out who's the better PG.
Trying to debate which guy is the better PG seems to be going nowhere because both guys are still trying to develop their game.

Banks is the better athelete while West is the smarter player. In other words, Banks is the better player cause he can go up against better PGs while West will get abuse by the likes of Baron Davis, Marbury, Parker, or any premeir pg in this league.
Bank's defense is what separates the 2 players. And right now banks is averaging 12pts 3 ast for the past 3 games. I don't remember West putting double digits points for a stretch of 2 games never mind 3. (probably wrong)

Yeah, for some reason, I was thinking the same thing as I watch watching King Kong ;D (the beginning of the movie is pretty slow).
For one thing, Banks pressures the ball very well and this has allowed us to interfere with our opponents flow of the game, thus allowing us to get a few defensive stops (something we've been struggling with the entire season). And another thing is he allows us to push Orien back a spot on the roster, which appears to be benefiting Orien. Greene seems to be playing with less pressure on himself and be more natural.
