Looks like we are closing in on a deal with Marcus Smart. If that's finalized, it looks like our bench will be
Baynes Theis Semi Morris Smart Rozier Wanamaker
Is this a bench capable of providing enough offense and defense when they're called upon, especially in the 2nd quarter? We've been a bad team in the 2nd quarter, when Brad lets the starters (for the most part) rest and brings in the B-unit.
If they can carry their weight, we're locks to make it to the Finals (barring injuries).
Of course, this means rookie Rob Williams will need to play well enough to upseed one of Semi, Theis and Baynes (probably in that order). He's not getting a free ticket -- he's earning his dinner if he wants to eat.

It's fine on D. Could use more shooting. Maybe TR3 becomes that guy consistently. I do expect one of the starters to be out there with the bench guys too.

Championship bench is an interesting term. You really don't need much especially if your starters are great (ala Warriors). Offense is always the concern with those listed. We need Rozier to be more consistent and Semi to not be scared to play offense and I think we'll be ok.

Not great, but bench players who fit the scheme, and make the system work even when 3 or 4 of the starters are sitting. Last year, the bench would give up the lead the starters built, almost routinely. We cannot have that anymore.

Semi and Yabusele showed good things in Game 1 of the summer league, which helps us to see their potential roles this upcoming year.
We know about Semi's defensive capabilities, but Yabu flashed some defense last night. He got a couple of blocks (from what I saw), moved his feet well, showed good lateral movements, closed out on shooters, stayed low when switched on smaller guys, etc. He picked up a lot of fouls, but at least a couple seemed ticky tack. And to his credit, Furkan Korkmaz was pretty crafty with his pump fakes, and because he was crazy on fire behind the arc, Yabu had to play him close. Per usual, Yabu showed his unique ability to attack the basket, hammering down some vicioius dunks. Yabu has some tricks up his sleeve, and knows how to use them. But his role will be as a complimentary scorer who puts up points when opportunity presents itself. I'd love to see him become a monster rebounder.
Semi looks like he tightened up his shot, which allowed him to get it off in tighter windows. He only hit 2 of 7, but his shots looked true (some nights they fall, some nights they don't).
Rob Williams has a chance to be a monster on the glass. His acceleration rate getting up in the air is spectacular. Ridiculous athlete. Once he learns to position himself, box out, and use his leaping ability, I don't see why he can't lead the league in rebounding.
