bleacherreport.com/articles/2784320-nba-rumors-kyrie-irving-jimmy-butler-trying-to-play-together-for-east-teamNBA Rumors: Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler Trying to Play Together for East Team If the guards do want to play together, they are probably best off hitting the open market next summer and trying to find a team with an established frontcourt star. That would likely be enough to vault their new franchise to the top of the heap. The New York Knicks are the first team that comes to mind. Irving, Butler and Kristaps Porzingis would form the foundation for a title contender. ---------------------------------------------------------- Anyone buying this? Small part of me does. Irving wanting to leave for a bigger media market isn't a huge surprise. Him wanting to play with Butler also makes some sense. I don't think we have any cap space to take on both their max contracts either. Not when we have Al to re-sign, and having to pay other guys like Brown too.

It's getting harder and harder to please the stars in the NBA now. It seems it never has anything to actually do with basketball. I buy this in the sense that Kyrie just released a movie and clearly has learned from Lebron about how important it is to build your brand and market yourself. I hope it's not true as I'd like to see us truly build a dynasty with him, but if Boston isn't enough for him then I don't know what else we can do but keep our options open like Danny has.

Kyrie has also talked about wanting to play with Gordon and he hasn't even really done THAT yet, so I think this rumor is BS.

Well the good thing is hopefully we can get Smart to sign a one year deal. Then in a year if Kyrie leaves you sign Smart and Rozier and defend Kyrie with them. Hayward, Horford, Tatum, Baynes, and Jaylen can easily handle the rest of the Knicks, especially if we add a top draft pick next year. That Knicks team can't beat the 76ers.

There's not really any point to caring about this kind of thing. Next year they'd want to play with someone else. Some of these players clearly have ADHD. They grew up constantly stimulated and playing playstation with cheat codes.
That's why having players with focus like Gordon H, and Tatum, and Jaylen, and Horford, and Baynes, and probably Smart is so important and having a coach like Stevens. They can trade Kyrie at the deadline if they need to.
Pretty soon players are going to see that we make like 3 finals in a row and they're going to want to play with us and they'll do what Cousins did signing weird contracts to come here.
Cousins to GSW seems like a great idea but it has done two things. One is it put a locker room cancer in Golden State. The other is that it makes all those stars in the West feel like they have no shot at the finals. They all signed one year deals. A year from now where are guys gonna want to play? Exactly.

I think Danny had a solid quote recently of correlating rumors to news = programming. There are only a few sports writers I respect, Woj and Windy to name a few, because they have facts.

I'm wondering if maybe Kyrie isn't in the long term picture. At 6'3" (and I think that's a little generous), and not a plus defender, I wonder if we'd want to go with a taller and stronger defender at the 1?
I'm not looking to replace him, but if he decides to leave, that opens us up to upgrade that spot defensively.
