And he's signing a multi year contract. Job security, in a place he's very much wanted and needed.
Good signing, and not expensive at all.

I really like Baynes, and hope its a multi-year deal. He was a vast upgrade for Amir Johnson last year (and 1/3 of the cost).

Baynes did quite well against Embiid and I'm looking forward to seeing how he grows from there.

I wonder if this means Smart is gone or they're a tad nervous about Williams

I wonder if this means Smart is gone or they're a tad nervous about Williams Don’t think this indicates they’re nervous about RW, seeing how no one views him as a plug and play big man, but a raw project who needs mentoring. But it could indicate Smart’s time here is short.

Jaylen Brown was quoted that Baynes prioritized his family, and winning.
I do not think its indication of Smart here or gone, but if Danny says to Smart "hey we are signing Baynes to $5m, leaving $7m to Smart, take it or leave it", then if Smart passes, he is gone.

I get the feeling that Smart will take a lower offer to stay here. We're close to a title, he loves his teammates, he knows he has a valuable role here, he has a great coach, great organization.
More money and a bigger role str what other teams can offer him.

I think Smart is the kind of guy that would rather take 6mill per year for 3 years to be a starter somewhere like the Pacers than take 7 to be a backup here. I think if he feels slighted or disrespected he's out

I think he's gone if we offer $7 million (give or take a million) and he's offered more elsewhere. Especially since he's been public about thinking he's worth more than $14 million.
I see TR thriving if Smart leaves. Being the clear-cut third guard will give him more minutes and the more he plays the better he plays. I just don't see Smart's role on this team beyond the inspirational stuff. I really believe he's way overvalued because his contributions are unusual.

I think the Pacers are a good fit for Smart if they choose to pay him. Otherwise, maybe SAC gives Smart the contract he desires. If either of those teams make a big plunge for him I don't see why we would match it. The more I think about it the less I want Smart back no matter how many articles I see trying to magnify his intangibles or compare him to the Perk. I think this team doesn't succeed or fail on that grittiness or swagger cause we're different and the NBA is different - higher scores, faster pace, more 3s. If we keep him for 6-7 mil then great, especially if it's a short deal for him to bet on himself and give us flexbility. Otherwise, let him go.

Also, very happy to re-sign Baynes. Excited to see if he starts shooting the 3 like we saw in the playoffs. Plus, his defense was even better than I expected - matter of fact, he surpassed any expectations from when we got him last year and showed what a great signing he truly was.

I heard the NBA caps go up the following year. So Smart might be smart to sign the one year tender with the C's then move on next year. Regardless, he is not a 14M a year player, he just can shoot good enough, and if you want to break your hand in the locker room after a game cause your angry, then miss a bunch of games well thats not worth big bucks either. I do love and hate him, as everyone knows! but unless we keep him at a good price he can't stay shooting 30% from three with how many he jacks up! and 33% from everywhere else, semi almost shot that good.

No surprise here, Aron Baynes signs a 2 year 11 mil contract to continue his service with us!
Again, no surprise, and really good thing for us to have him here.
