Sherrod is reporting that we are one of several teams interested in the soon-to-be bought out Dwight Howard.
What in the world? Isn't he a lockerroom cancer? A guy who is abrasive with his coach?
Hmmm..... great talent, yes. But is it worth threatening the great chemistry we have?

He fills a need, especially if we lose Baynes. I feel confident enough in our coaches and locker room that Dwight will buy in. I would be eager to see the different ways Brad comes up with to use him.

I wonder how many teams have thought they would be the ones to get the best out of Howard, only to move on from him in a year or two. I guess if he could be signed on the cheap it's a low risk deal, and if he did nothing but help with Embiid it might be worth it. I'm just skeptical of the guy. He may be the single greatest waste of physical gifts the game has ever seen.

I mean, if he knows his role, he provides us with tremendous rebounding and shot blocking. But that's the thing, he has to know his role.
Maybe Smart and Dwight can make that their mantra, and remind themselves in the corner of a room before the game starts.

Unless if signs a veteran minimum contract, I would not be interested.

I'd prefer keeping Baynes at all costs - proven good character and teammate. Dwight is a weird case study. I guess, like mentioned, if he took the veteran minimum contract you'd have to assume he'd be game to really be a team player, but that's the only way really.

I want Baynes back. He fits this team very well. I really don't want to bring in Dwight Howard. Every team he's been on he goes in saying how he wants to win and he's willing to do whatever it takes and in the season there's always talk about how his teammates hate him and how he's disruptive. He is a talent, I'll give him that, but after so many different teams have the same story about him that I worry that he will do the same thing here, even with the strong team chemistry they have.

I'm sure everyone knows Dwight rubs teammates the wrong way. But Ainge has interest in him, and there's no way he'd kick the tires on him without first consulting with Brad (and I'm sure even Al Horford). They must feel they'll be able to keep Howard at bay, on the court and in the lockerroom. I like Baynes too, but admittedly, Dwight offers more defensive/rebounding/shot blocking impact than Baynes. Plus the threat of the lob pass (though Baynes, if can keep keep it going, was hitting his 3's, which Howard doesn't do). IF Dwight will accept the exemption, and only for a year, it might pay off. It would be great for Rob to learn defense from Dwight as well.

I would only take him if he humbles himself to ring chase with us. I would not invest in him.

I would only take him if he humbles himself to ring chase with us. I would not invest in him. If Dwight is chasing rings, his choices are narrowed down to Houston, Golden State, us, and maybe the Sixers. Houston has Clint Capela, so they're good. Golden State has Zaza, so I'm sure they wouldn't mind an upgrade. The Sixers have Embiid. We could possibly use an upgrade (shift Horford to his natural position at the 4).

Passed along without comment (from Chad Finn of the Boston Globe):
"Bill Laimbeer is 61 years and eternally unlikeable on account of him still being Bill Laimbeer, and let me tell you this. I’d rather he come out of retirement, demand to wear No. 33, and play 48 minutes a game for the Celtics next year to the option of having clueless ninny Dwight Howard in green next year.
Ainge had better do something that Howard can’t: pass."
