Danny Ainge keeps everyone on their toes because you never know what he's going, or not going, to do. With the draft, and with trade talks circulating throughout the web, we can narrow it down to 3 possibilities that Ainge might choose.
1) Stand pat. Make only minor changes to our already existing roster and run the crew back.
2) Trade upwards in the draft. It might cost us a core piece to get the job done. But if Ainge sees a draftee whom he feels is a guy who can put us over the edge, he may make this happen.
3) Cannon ball splash. Ainge reels in another big summer catch, but at the expense of some of the core players we hold dearly.
Fans will have to agonize for another few days, or the rest of the summer to find out which choice Ainge goes with.

Option 3 might be off the table, if Kawhi is serious about only wanting to go to LA.
So that leaves standing pat, or moving up in the draft. Talk is Ainge wants Doncic (I do too. Hope we can make something happen).

I wonder what that would take (Doncic). I'd love to be able to do it just for picks (Kings '19, Clippers '19, Grizz '19) but I doubt that would cut it.

Ryan Russillo said we, and the Clippers, are the most active trying to move up in the draft. IF Danny is seriously interested in a prospect who's projected to go high, he may have to offer players too.

Doncic may not be too happy coming to the Cs. I understand that alot of draft prospects don't actually want to come to the Cs if they're projected high...their agents fear that they'll become bench players and won't get that max contract by the time the rookie one is up. Perhaps the only position of value to us is a big man at the 5 spot.

But with Luka, I think he loves winning, and if he's confident that he can beat out his competition (Tatum, Hayward, Jaylen), he'll be up for the challenge.

On the other hand, playing for a winner, destined to go deep into the playoffs for years to come, gives a good player lots of visibility, and could make him look better than if he were on a bad team and opponents could focus on him.
If we were after Luca, wouldn't we almost have to give up one of our wings, Brown, Hayward, Tatum? There are only so many minutes to go around. Is Doncic a sure thing upgrade over any of them?
If we're trying to move up, my bet would be it's for the chance to draft a big.

Yes, we'd probably have to give away a wing player at some point -- otherwise development will be stunted for the young guys, and players shuffling off and onto the court will make it hard(er) to gain cohesion and chemistry. So far, for the big men, we've only been rumored to be interested in Bamba. I hope we have interest in Ayton and Jackson too. I'm very curious to know who Ainge has high interest in obtaining, if it's possible. I'm a big fan of Doncic.

Stand point. I would try to grab a big in the top 10 if possible but, it would be the Celtics best interest to hold onto Rozier for the time being just in case Irving might not commit to long term in the next off-season. Not seeing any other option to get into the top of the draft without giving up some of the core.

Not seeing any other option to get into the top of the draft without giving up some of the core. Hey there, Jhvos! Long time no see. I'm beginning to think Rozier might be a long term fixture here. Read a quote from Brad that Danny had his mind set on drafting Rozier, not a week before the draft, but well before that. A month before, he told Brad to watch film on Rozier. He was big on Terry for a long time. Terry Rozier is beginning to do things that he did in college, now in the NBA. He's gotten comfortable and the game is slowing down for him. He's finishing at the rim better. I want to see Rozier's true shooting percentage go above 55%, which seems to be an indicator of an above average player. Danny's wanted Rozier for years -- and now that Terry is emerging, he'll only trade him at the right price.
