At this point it is a long shot for Lebron James to bring his talents to Massachusetts -- but nonetheless, according to Stephen A. Smith's sources, Lebron will have a meeting with Danny Ainge this summer.
So far, this news that was made public last week, has not been refuted by the Celtics' organization. This is important to note because this kind of news might have negative consequences to those who are sensitive about Lebron's presence -- namely Kyrie Irving.
We do not know exactly why Kyrie decided to bolt out of Cleveland, and it never came from his mouth that he disliked playing with Lebron. But that was the speculation that stuck, even to this day. And if that's accurate, well it will probably be upsetting to Kyrie that the guy he tried to get away from might be his teammate again.
Kyrie is set to be a free agent after next season, and if our goal is to keep him here long term, or more importantly, if we want him to be a happy camper while he's here, then you don't want to do anything that puts him in a foul mood.
So, when Stephen A. Smith utters on national television that Lebron is going to meet with the Celtics about possibly playing for us, we probably would have heard from our side that this wasn't true (to settle Kyrie down).
But, because we haven't heard Danny's refutation, it leads us to think that we ARE going to sit down with Lebron.
NOW, this is interesting -- agents are constantly talking to teams to gauge interests, and most likely Lebron's agent has already talked to Danny about a meeting this summer. And since Danny has not publically denied such a meeting, it means Danny is onboard with Lebron possibly playing for us. Which means Danny has already talked to Kyrie about this.
This branches into 2 possibilities: One, that Kyrie is open to playing with Lebron, or Two, Kyrie doesn't want to play with Lebron and has worked something out with Ainge, to trade Kyrie elsewhere if Lebron signs here.
