Every year, we familiarize ourselves with a bunch of guys who are going to be drafted. And we start falling in love with some, thinking they're going to turn out to be studs. Often times than not, they don't live up to the expectations we've put on em. Case in point, 4 years ago I was high on Aaron Gordon. With his build and skills, I thought for sure he'd be a borderline All-Star. Well, 4 years later and still without a jumper, the only credit he has to his name is almost being a dunk contest winner (I thought he should have beaten Zach LaVine).
It happens every year, and this year is no exception. They way you hear about these draftees, the top 5 are all going to be franchise players who'll turn their teams' fortunes around.
But it's rare if it happens. Not every draft crop will turn out like 2003's, where you had Lebron, Wade, Carmelo and Bosh (sorry Darko, you just missed making the list).
So, of the top names in this draft, who will not live up to their lofty expectations:
DeAndre Ayton Marvin Bagley Luka Doncic Mo Bamba Michael Porter Jr.

To his credit, Aaron Gordon is improving but not as quickly as the other guys in his class.. and injuries have played a part of it.
Within those list of names you mentioned, I think Michael Porter won't live up to the hype he had as one of the top high schoolers. He reminds me abit of Thomas Robinson who had the build to be in the NBA but not the refinement to be useful on court. Porter may last alot longer in the NBA but certainly doesn't have the look of a superstar that Ayton or Doncic projects.

I can agree with your pick. I see Porter's athleticism, and he's got great form, touch and range on his jumper. I just don't know if he can really excel in taking guys off the dribble, if he can penetrate the lane against good defenders, or if he's going to be anything more than a lethal jump shooter (which is good, but not going to make him a superstar).

Porter might fall out of the top 5 so I'm not sure how much hype he'll come attached with although I agree with both of you as him being the most likely in general. I think Doncic might be prone to more disappointment just based on his hype. When you're called a prodigy and a game-changer you expect a certain level of performance which I'm not sure I believe he'll bring - granted, I know very little other than highlights.

Being called the best european prospect, EVER, does put a lot of pressure on an 18 year old kid. But, to his credit, all his basketball life so far has seen him live up to his hype. He's met every challenge, at a very young age.

Porter with another injury reported today...as any team's GM i'd be tasking the medical team with getting 500 opinions before considering him. These types of injuries carry long term implications.

Yes, worrisome — especially because he relies on his athleticism. He’s been cleared to resume his workouts.

Porter. I was really really high on him prior to college. Had a major injury last year; simply awful in his return; cancelled workouts.
