I think this topic deserves a thread of its own.
We're hearing that Danny is interested in trading up higher, but we don't know for who (and you can bet Ainge is not going to let it slip out of his mouth). If I had to guess, or better yet, if I had to choose who I'd want Danny to trade for, it is Jaren Jackson.
Though I think Ayton will end up having a better statistical career, I'd choose Jackson. I believe Jaren Jackson (even more than Marvin Bagley) is the best fit on this team. And what makes me choose him over a versatile guy like Bagley is his defense. People question Bagley's defense -- I don't hear people wondering about Jackson's. Even the 3pt shot is in question for Bagley -- but Jackson's stats reveal that he is a big man who can knock down three's and free throws (shoots these better than many SG's and SF's who are going high in this draft).
Now, the question is, how are we going to move up high enough to get him?
It's painful, but it'll cost us Jaylen Brown -- a young wing who has star potential, possibly even being an All-Star in the next couple of seasons.
Now, why in the world would we sacrifice a young stud like Jaylen, who scores and defends, who is a model player and citizen? The reasons are threefold:
1) We have another young blossoming wing stud in Jayson Tatum, as well as a proven (and not old by any means) veteran star in Gordon Hayward
2) Next year's draft class has star caliber wings who can replace Jaylen (Nassir Little, RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson, Romeo Langford, Keldon Johnson, etc)
3) To find and secure a young big man who excels in the modern way big men are playing (block shots, switch on smaller, quicker players, and hit 3's) is harder to find than a two way wing.
Ainge may not be targeting Jackson, and even if he was, it'll be difficult to pull off a trade that won't cost us more than we're willing to spend. But boy, oh boy, do I hope he can make it happen.
