Mike Gorman sprinkles some water on our picnic by saying that he doesn't think Kyrie is a shoe in to sign here long term.
What do you guys think?
If there's any doubt, I don't know if we can trade Rozier away this summer.

It sounded like Gorman was more so referring to us not potentially wanting to give Kyrie a max contract when he opts out due to his history of injuries and the potential that he doesn't look good this coming year returning from his injury. Obviously, I think Ainge would certainly pull something off if he sensed that Kryie was not coming back to be the Kyrie we expected or if there's some worry about him medically...Still, I'd think if Kyrie returns and all is well, he'd have to be crazy to not want to stay with us. You can't really ask for a better situation than this (and Kryie kind of did ask for this when he demanded to be traded from CLE).

Yes, Kyrie is here long-term however Danny is not obsessed with a single player, and Kyrie is available (right price of course).

Was Gorman possibly referring to why Kyrie may not want to sign an extension, but rather wait until he is a free agent? www.boston.com/sports/boston-celtics/2018/06/02/kyrie-irving-contract-situationAccording to this article he stands to make a lot more money as a free agent. I think, unless Rozier makes another huge leap, that we have to pay Kyrie top dollar and roll the dice on his health. I wouldn't be too concerned about his knee. What happened this year was an artifact of a previous injury, not a new one. The hardware they put in years ago from fixing a broken patella was irritating him and had to be removed. The patella is healed, the hardware is gone, and he should be fine.

I am not concerned with the knee cap, however I am concerned that he has missed a lot of games for various injuries, most likely attributed to his style of play. His play will not change, hence there maybe even more injuries.

Kyrie took a paycut to come here. So either he desperately wanted out of Cleveland and Lebron OR he sees a long term future here. I am inclined to think its the latter. The growing number of players wanting to play for Coach Stevens is pretty astounding. The league as a consensus sees this as a top tier landing spot with a great coach, an unselfish all star Centre who won't hog the ball, and one of the biggest media markets in America for sponsorship opportunities.

Stevens list of player playing better than before is outstanding. Irving included.

Oh, now it's making sense!!! For those of you who haven't watched Kyrie's latest interview, watch it and see if you notice that Kyrie's guarded optimism. To me, it's like he wants to smile and get all giddy, but is holding it back. It's like when you know a secret, but you can't let anyone know.
Why does he say that it makes no sense to sign an extension now? Well, partly because he can make a whole lot more if he becomes a free agent. But also because if he waits until next summer, we can go ahead and trade for a star, and then re-sign Kyrie with the Bird rights.
Case in point, if we trade for Kawhi this summer, then he and Kyrie qualify for the Bird rights next summer (both are free agents in 2019).
Kyrie said (again, in guarded optimism) that he trusts management to do what's best for this team. He knows Danny and Wyc and the rest are after championships, and they're going to do what they can to bring in elite talent. Kyrie must believe they're going to do something special.

I truelly believe that if BOS runs backs the same team, its an NBA finals appearance.

I think between the two, Tatum has more potential to be a top 15 player in the league. He’s more ice in clutch situations.

Every time I hear Kyrie talk, he loves Boston. He loves the fans. He loves the team. He loves the front office. He loves the owners. He loves the organization. Nothing ever negative about the Celtics at all. He's not going to sign an extension because it would limit his options contract wise. He can make a lot more if he waits. Also I don't see Danny locking him up now because as Derren says, it limits the Celtics' options also. I think Kyrie will re-sign in Boston and be there long time in spite of the rumors to the contrary.

I'm right now listening to his podcast with Bill Simmons, and yeah, he loves Brad Stevens, his speaks so highly of Tatum, and he just sounds like he's happy to be here.
On a sidenote, I know that Kobe idolized Jordan so much that he (early in his career) spoke like Mike. Of course, he found his own voice in time. Kyrie idolized Kobe, and listening to this podcast, he sounds like Kobe.

The only thing I think could maybe happen is if we have a situation that's somewhat unforeseen. Like if Kawhi really wants to come here and Kyrie gets hurt again or LeBron really wants to come here and Kyrie isn't sure he wants to be here and stuff like that.
Other than that I think he'll be here
