I’m going to make this a thread where you can throw out wild, maybe improbable ideas about what may become of the 2018-2019 Celtics roster, based on what we hear being reported by the media, and what we guess could happen.
Ok, for my first wild take, we package Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart (sign and trade) along with future draft picks for Karl Anthony Towns. Next, we trade Terry Rozier and the 27th pick to move up and grab Luka Doncic. And we use our exemption (whichever one we have available) and sign Tyreke Evans. Resign Aron Baynes.
This revamped roster may be a tick less defensive (but may still finish in the top 6), but upgrade substantially on offense.
Kyrie
Hayward
Tatum
Horford
Karl Anthony Towns
Tyreke Evans
Luka Doncic
Marcus Morris
Daniel Theis
Aron Baynes
This is a roster full of 6’6” - 6’8” wings who can handle the ball, score from the perimeter, attack the basket, pass, and play iso ball when need be. And we have 4 big men who are capable of stretching the floor and hitting 3’s (KAT, Horford, Theis, Baynes). Which big man on the Warriors can cover KAT? We have arguably 2 top ten players in KAT and Kyrie, another top 20 player in Gordon Hayward, and an ascending player who may vault into the top 25 next yeat (Tatum). Tyreke will give us much needed scoring stability off the bench. Luka Doncic is a swiss army knife who can tag team with Tyreke to give us 2 tall guards who are savvy scorers. Oh, and then you have Marcus Morris, who as an end of the bench guy is a weapon.
Why do i make such drastic changes to a team that was a win away from the Finals, who will be adding Kyrie and Hayward? Because if we rolled with what we have already, I think we make it to the Finals and go to a game 7, with a 50/50 chance of winning. But making these changes, IMO, increases our chances at a title, and i say we win the Finals in six.
Being that we have Horford for a short time, and we don’t know when Kyrie’s knee will bring him down a notch, we should make every move to increase our probability of winning multiple titles asap.
