Ainge finally gets his guy? Tyreke is an unrestricted free agent, and averaged 19 ppg this year.
At 6’6”, he would give us another ball handler and shot creator who can play the 1, 2, and 3.
Defense has never been his calling, and he may never be a good individual defender — but maybe he can grasp enough of the team concept to not be a big detriment.

Well, it would certainly help us switch on D without winding up with some of size mismatches we saw in the playoffs. He made just under $3.3 mil this year. I wonder what it would take to get him. But with all the offense we'll have next year, do we prioritize a guy whose strength is on that end of the floor?

I think we need scoring help off the bench because guys like Smart and Morris, and even Rozier are too streaky.

I would rather use the MLE on Baynes again.

I agree RR. If I had a choice, I'd go with Baynes. He was a big part of the reason that our defense was so good. He's also a great locker room guy.

Do we need to use the MLE for Baynes? Can't we just resign him as a returning player for whatever salary he and the team agree upon? I want Baynes back too, and I think that's the plan, but I think we can resign him and still use the MLE on someone else. I could be wrong though.

I'm not all that familiar with Evans game and so I don't know if there are players that would fit our system better or not. But I really hope Danny brings Baynes back whichever way he has to do it.

I think the MLE (and the likes) is for signing free agents. Fresh? But yes, bringing Baynes back for a decent price should be on our list.

I am not Mike Zarren, but what I was thinking was resigning Baynes around the MLE amount. $4-5million.

If i’m understanding it correctly, the MLE is available for teams to use to sign free agents, and there are different variations of the exemptions. Those teams under the luxury tax apron have a higher dollar amount of the mid level exemption. Teams over the luxury tax apron have a lesser dollar amount MLE to ffer free agents.
Signing our own players do not require using the MLE.

Ex: I think Baynes is worth $4-5million, which is plus or minus the dollar amount of the MLE.

Got it. I agree, and hope we can sign Baynes for that amount.

I think we will resign him, but I think it will be for more than that. Didn't Zeller get $8 million per year from us? And Baynes is three times the player that Zeller was. I'm guessing something in the $10 million range give or take $2 mil.

I think Baynes is worth double the MLE. I really liked him.

I thought he even did a damn good job on the few occasions he wound up on James one-on-one. Definitely a keeper. We really don't have anyone like him on our roster.
