Watching Bird in the last two games where he got extended playing time, he has brought energy on both ends of the court. Nader, on the other hand, especially against the Hawks, hasn't looked so good. Bird isn't elegible for the playoffs unless they cut a player on the current roster and sign him to a regular contract. Even Gibson in his very limited time has seemed to me to out-play Nader. I wouldn't be upset to see them waive Nader and sign Bird for the playoffs. What do you think?

When asked about waiving Nader to sign Bird for the playoffs, Brad said that wasn't his decision or his job. Since it is Danny's job, I don't see him letting any sentimentality get in the way of his decision. I've seen some say that they wouldn't do that to Nader who has been with the team all season but if Danny would trade away Paul Pierce, I don't seen any loyalty that would keep him from letting Nader go.

My take: Bird makes things happen by moving without the ball, where Nader forces things to happen, by driving into the lane contested. Bird was a McDonald's all-american in high school; his college career was OK. Cutting Nader will not be a mistake that haunts the team later.

As I've watched Nader fail to take advantage of his opportunities to play lately, I had already come to the conclusion that he wouldn't be back next year. Now, with Bird showing he can contribute, I'm even more sure of it. Waive him.

Example - Nader has $450k on next year's contract guaranteed.

I would think that's small change for a team looking at competing for a title next year. Unless that $450k prevents them from signing someone they want, I think they'll choose the better player.

I agree that $450k is pocket change for the owners, however once a team is over the cap for 3 out of 4 years, the repeater tax is in effect. I really think BOS only wants to start that window with Kyrie's extension, which is at the end of next year.
