FUTUREC - Perk PF - Jefferson SF - Pierce SG - Davis PG - ? 6th man - Green I wonder how you keep GG out of the starting line up. How about Ricky back in the 6th-man role? I agree El... GG at the 2. Nobody could cone close to bocking, or put a hand in his face, out there. He has to much leep in his jumpshot.

One component this team, as well as the future team is missing, is a pure shooter. We have a lot of guys who can score from the perimeter and we have guys who can knock down 3 pointers regularly, but none of them are considered pure shooters.
Pure shooters are guys who can be counted on to knock down open jumpers, as if its automatic. Like, you know that if they are open, you can add 3 points on the scoreboard. Guys like these are Larry Bird, Steve Kerr, Glen Rice, Mark Price, Ray Allen, Peja Stojakovic, Dirk Nowitzki, etc. Pure shooters are guys who do really well in the 3 point shooting contests.
Many scorers who knock down a lot of 3 pointers aren't pure shooters. They are rhythm shooters who don't do as well if they aren't moving first. Pierce, Ricky, and Allen Iverson fit into this bill. Manu Ginobli is another good example. Put them in the 3 pt shooting contest and 9 times out of 10, they'd lose to guys like Peja Stojakovic or Kyle Korver.
That's the difference between pure shooters and scorers.
So who can we get that is a pure shooter?
I say draft JJ Redick from Duke. He's as pure a shooter as they come. Give him any space and he'll knock it down. Midrange or 25 feet out, he'll drain if he has any daylight. Such a pure shooting stroke and his free throw shooting is a thing of beauty.
He's a 6 foot 4 inch shooting guard who's a deadly shooter. I don't expect him to be a starter for us, but a guy we bring off the bench who can be used as our shooting marksmen. We are missing that. As we clearly see when Raef and Delonte are hitting their open jumpers when passes are kicked out to them, we are much deadlier and harder to guard when we have that outside shooting presence.
As we begin to use Jefferson's low post skills more, there will be more kickout opportunities for our outside shooters. Delonte and Raef are nice kickout options, but they aren't pure shooters. They miss a lot of open shots that they should knock down.
Having a guy like JJ off the bench is going to be a big boost because it'll open up the floor more.

It could go either way with GG and Davis. I think they'll be similar type players i.e. pure shooters. I'm just seeing it as worst case scenario for Green. 6th isn't bad for him especially if he's getting 25-30 mins a night. FUTUREC - Perk PF - Jefferson SF - Pierce SG - Davis PG - ? 6th man - Green I wonder how you keep GG out of the starting line up. How about Ricky back in the 6th-man role? I agree El... GG at the 2. Well obviously the "Now" lineup is proven. We basically know what we are going to get. The "future" lineup has a lot more potential if all of the players develop and reach their potential.
I also agree Green should be a 2 guard. Possibly Gomes at the 3 spot as a big forward. I also agree our future point guard (that Ainge would want) is not on this roster.
I think Ainge wants someone like a TJ Ford, or Ridnour, a true point that can shoot. (TJ Ford can't shoot though). They also have to play D (unlike Dickau).
I don't know if Tony Allen will be in our future either. Gomes and Gerald Green could make him expendable. He could land us our future point guard.
I also think that to the surprise of many that Perkins could actually be our future starter at center IF he reached his potential. If a deal comes along, then our big man will come from some place else then.
Regarding the point guard spot, I like Delonte West, and I think his hustle and D epitomizes what the tradition of the Celtics are all about, but as someone mentioned in an earlier post, maybe he would be better suited as a super sub combo guard off the bench. He could be a super 6th man.
I still would like to see what this team could do with an experienced, (but young) TRUE point guard who could play a little D, and shoot as well. That would be our ideal point guard.

I guess, after looking at it again, you're right JHVOS. The 6th ma will get minutes as well. Looks like they are putting more muscle on GG as we speak. He might play more 3 than 2. I have been hping for him as a 2, for the miss-match.
