I'm still on the fence about that one, BC. Sometimes, I do see him being the future PG because of all the things he's capable of doing. He can be a total package PG when the flow of the game allows him to be. But he can also disappear and have very pedestrian stats--which makes me wonder how much we can count on him to produce in big games.
Oriene Greene has more PG skills in his body, and overall, he's a better PG prospect. But until he puts it all together (and this is not a quarantee he will), Delonte is ahead of him.

Yeah, I can see that too. No PG in the college ranks who really knocks my socks off at this time. Daniel Gibson of Texas is a really talented offensive PG (a real smooth scorer) and Rajon Rondo of Kentucky is an electric playmaker, but I wonder if his style would work in a systematic set up we have.
But who knows, ol' Danny Boy may be able to swing a trade that will land us a choice PG. I've stated many times that I'd be extremely happy getting Luke Ridnour, Kirk Hinrich, or TJ Ford.
But we shouldn't count out Delonte. He's improving his game week by week. We have yet to see him really get his scoring on track. He's exponentially better this year than he was last year, and its not out of the question that he'll be even better next year.

For "now", the stars are concentrated in 2 players; for the "future", I think the stars will be spread out in 2-3 players.
I like the future line-up.

Blount and Raef are too soft to both be in there at the same time. Both are perimeter centers and don't play under the basket - although Raef is better than Blount. I like the future line up better but we are really weak at the PG spot. Either West or Greene have to improve in leaps and bounds or Danny needs to trade for a pure point who is effective. I like Perk and Al as they are improving game by game and yet Doc still refuses to give Perk more minutes and doesn't call plays for Al down the stretch. Boggles the mind. Depending on whether this is near future or long distance future, I would still like PP or Ricky in the line up in place of GG. He just isn't NBA ready yet, at least body wise. Also it still remains to be seen if TA can come back and play efficiently. Sometimes after knee surgery guys just never get back to form. I want to see him play before putting him in the starting lineup.

I definately like the future lineup better, but I'd switch Green to SG and play Gomes at SF.

I think the future team looks more balance but will take about 3 years or so to emerge, which is ight around when PP, Raef, Blount, and Ricky's contracts are up. Add 3 years worth of stockpiled draft picks to add competition, depth, and options (like 4 1rsts and 5 2nds) and it could be a pretty competitive team, but it will take a looooooooooong time. Which is why I'd like to see more development now and more minutes for young guys. I have given up on any kind of championship with this group of players. The PPs and Rickys had their shot I kinda think the only reason the Raefs get PT is because in a weak division we try to sneak into the playoffs to make playoff money and get our young guys playoff PT. Whatever. I'd rather get higher draft picks.

Oh yeah, and back to Derren's comment on the future PG situation, I would also be very happy to get TJ Ford or Luke Ridnour. Both are playmakers who would fit well into our system. What do you guys think of these trade scenarios?
C's get: Ridnour Fortson/Swift
Sonics get: Pierce
-----------------------------
C's get: Ford Smith
Bucks get: Pierce

E-mac, that is one of the worst proposals i've ever seen. At least if you trade away Pierce for lesser value, either Blount or Raef should be included.
Shaping the team for a future lineup is fine as long as you know that Big Al or GG can take us all the way. That is by no means certain for now. So trading Pierce in this picture is a to big of a gamble.

I am thinking a straight-up deal w/ Pierce would have to land a player like:
Garnett Brand Nowitski
And these teams would not go for it.

Good points from all of you. The future does look bright with those guys.
Yes, PG is still an area we need to closely monitor. Its one of the first positions a team should fill if they are aspiring to be champions one day. Delonte could be this player, but he needs to really step up his game and consistently play that way. Like I said, we can't count him out, but Ainge shouldn't close his mind to trade ideas that could bring us in a high caliber PG.
I also think Perkins is in the same boat as Delonte. Both really need to step up their games and consistently play this way in order for us to really have a championship caliber team. Perks and Delonte are both showing promise, but I see a lot of improvments that should be made.
E-Mac, if I'm trading Pierce to the Bucks, I'm asking for both TJ Ford and Andrew Bogut.

I think the Bucks would never go for picking up a max contract attached to a perpetually unhappy player who is unproven in the playoffs for young guys making low money with tons of potential. I'd be perfectly happy. I would always be happy to trade a sg/sf for a good big man or pg. The only sg in the league I wouldn't trade away for a reasonably equal pg or big man is Lebron.
