Sreiously, at some point, we need to look at ourselves honestly, and see what we are missing to put ourselves into serious title contention.
Cause at this point, it looks like we're almost there.
We're 15 - 2, just got through beating the title favorite Warriors, practically shutting them down after the half, shutting down their star players in incredible fashion, and we're doing this as a young team practically playing together for the first time, that had to make an adjustment on the fly after losing an All-Star in the very first game of the season. We're not supposed to be this good this fast, especially after losing Hayward.
Our defense is top shelf, and our offense has potential. We've become good at closing out games, even if we're down late in games.
Jaylen and Tatum are developing fast, and are key contributors who will only get better and take enormous steps forward.
We've got 2 All-Stars in Kyrie and Horford, who play extremely well together, reminding us of Stockton and Malone.
And we have a handful of supporting players who can step up and fill in -- Morris, Baynes, Smart and Rozier.
The other guys have occasional noticeable games (Theis, Semi, Larkin).
I would say having another impactful big man close to 7 feet who can defend will only make us stronger. And adding 2 more solid contributors to give us a really solid 8 or 9 man rotation will cement our status as true contenders.

Gordon Heyward coming back and forcing one of the young guys onto the bench to replace Smart after he leaves will be a huge upgrade for us next season. As for this season we could use a rim protector and one more shooter off of the bench.

What I can't wait to see when we put our own "death" lineup out there next season when we have Kyrie, Gordon, Jason, Jaylen, and Al on the floor at the same time.

I agree with the need for another shooter off the bench. Smart and Rozier are both active defenders and rebounders, but both struggle scoring much of the time. I have more hope that TR can develop into a semi-reliable scorer than MS, being in the league one less year and being better able to create space for himself, but I can't say I'm confident he'll get there. A 3 and D type would fit well, I think. Unlikely to happen this year though.

Stay the course. GS is the reigning champ, and BOS matches up best.

We need scoring off the bench. If we do have a chink in the armor, this is it. Our bench struggles to score.
Time to put Marcus Morris on the bench, and start Baynes again. Morris can add some scoring punch.

Trade Smart and use the Injury exemption to get someone who can score off of the bench. Our offense will automatically be 100% by getting rid of smart and his 26% shooting and refusal to stop shooting.

We're giving up a lot of points in the paint. We need to shore this up. We still don't have a shot eraser.

We're really not that far away from being contenders. To think that we're getting Hayward back, and he gives us another 20+ pt scorer, that will be a boost to our offense. Plus, Jaylen and Tatum will both improve and solidify their game and possibly their status as stars.
I think what we need is a big man who is a couple of notches better than Aron Baynes. Maybe a borderline All-Star.

While the salary cap may hinder us there, we may see end-of-career guys who have never won a title willing to come here for short money. There are only so many teams that are perceived as having a chance to win, and we're now one of them - especially next year when GH is back.
Also, watch that Sacro pick in '19 and the Memphis pick too. Either or both could yield a quality big.

Why trade Smart? When Gordon comes back one of Brown or Tatum will move to the bench, thus improving the second unit's scoring. In that light, I'd rather trade Rozier, as Marcus provides far better intangibles/defense than him. Besides, any contender needs a passionate defender like Smart, and any other player of similar impact (not that easy to find in this league) will cost us the same or more money anyway...so I don't see any reasoning behind money question either.
What we really need though to contend, is a quality big for the starters. As hard working as Baynes is, he is a second unit material....that should be our main concern atm imo.

I think right now all we need is time. We need Brown and Tatum to keep improving. Hopefully Al can keep at this level for a couple more years. I think priority [HASH]1 is making sure we get a quality big with that LAL/SAC pick (or possibly that MEM pick). Getting some young guy that can take the reins from Al is gonna be huge. This team could be good for a long time.
