I'm feeling extremely good for some reason this morning -- night and day difference from how awful I felt last night. The sun is shining brighter, the air is sweeter, people are nicer!!
Even looking at Hayward's injury, I'm seeing positives things coming out of it:
- More young players will get a chance to play more minutes with the potential (and hope) of earning bigger roles. Semi and Nader in particular will get to see more minutes in Hayward's absence.
- Jaylen, Tatum, Smart and Rozier will all be counted on more heavily to produce, to replace what Hayward provides. Every game they'll need to come up big, and some nights they'll need to be the hero. They're not just the supporting cast anymore -- we need them to be the prime core. By raising their games to the next level, we'll be in far greater position to contend against the elites in the playoffs.
- We'll more than likely lose more games than we would have if Hayward wasn't injured. This means our draft slot will be slightly better. With the talent coming out in the '18 draft, this is a good thing.
- When Gordon comes back in March (I'm being optimistic), not only will the main rotation players be stronger because of the extra playing time they'll receive and the additional responsibilities they'll learn to carry, but it'll be like we traded for an Al-Star and added him to the mix for the playoff run! What a boost that'll be.
This injury could be a blessing in disguise.

All true, BUT all predicated on GH coming back fully healthy. Color me cautiously optimistic. Still stinks that he has to go through this though.
Can you imagine the cheers he's going to get now when he finally makes his Garden debut?

Based on last night, I am convinced a fully healthy BOS team can beat CLE in a 7-game series.

Based on last night, I am convinced a fully healthy BOS team can beat CLE in a 7-game series. Yup, I agree. We beat the Cavs last night if Gordon didn't get injured. And in a playoff series at the end of the year, Jaylen and Tatum will be much better, and dangerous. We'd beat them then too. Actually, even without Hayward, I think we still have a shot against CLE if: 1) Morris is better than expected, and he can be plugged into the heavy rotation 2) Jaylen and Tatum can combine for 25-30 pts and 10 boards a game with solid defense 3) Smart and Rozier can be a 2-man wrecking crew and put constant pressure on CLE's backcourt

Right now, I see BOS as 5th seed. CLE, WAS, TOR, MIL. I think CLE is worse now than last year, however BOS is basically the same team as last year, sans Crowder, and Bradley, and adding Tatum. Brown, and Rozier are wild cards right now, because 2-games is too small of a sample size.

Enjoying the Jaylen Brown show and I do hope we get the medical exemption. Who would we sign with it though?

I heard today that if we do get the medical exemption and sign someone, that means GH can't play for us this year. If true, that would almost certainly rule out our doing anything until the comeback schedule is clearer. If there'e any chance he can come back and play well for us this year, I'd have to think we'd want to hold out for that. Also, anyone worth signing is probably not available now. Maybe after the all-star break, when teams have fallen out of it and may be looking to shed salary, someone might be available, and by then we'll know much better about Gordon's situation re playing this year.

I think that Danny has until March to use the exemption if he gets it. That would give him time to evaluate Hayward's rehab and it would also be when some teams would make players available. It's another chip in Danny's war chest.
I remember back when Reggie Lewis died the Celtics didn't get any type of salary relief. They had to carry his full salary until the end and it counted against the cap. Since then, they have added clauses for injured players but they didn't back then and didn't even consider it.

The Knicks would have gotten relief in that situation, but no one feels sorry for the Celtics.

The Knicks would have gotten relief in that situation, but no one feels sorry for the Celtics. I think with Silver running the show different outcomes will happen. Stern, he probably would justify no action.

I read yesterday (can't find the link again) that getting the medical exemption has nothing to do with GH playing this year. All is needed to get the exemption is that the NBA doctors, not the team doctors state that GH isn't "likely" that he will play before June 15th. They can give us the exemption and he can still play if he is healthy with no consequences. The only rules that are tied to the exemption is that if we trade for a player they have to be in the last year of their contract, or if we sign a FA, it can only be for one season.

Interesting. Any idea when that determination will be made?

Interesting. Any idea when that determination will be made? All I know is that Danny has applied for it and the article didn't say there was a timetable for a decision. I can't imagine it taking very long one way or the other.

The medical exception has some strict rules that will make it hard for Danny to uncover a replacement.
>Can not be combined with other exceptions. >Expiring date (sometime this year).

In the absense of Hayward, Tatum has been getting more minutes early on that Brad wasn't necessarily aiming to give him.
But now that Tatum has been doing well, Brad is publically saying he wants Jayson to -- not play better defense, not pass the ball more -- but shoot the ball more!! Says Tatum is a natural scorer.
Whether he's ready or not, Tatum is going to play big minutes and be asked to be a big part of our offense.
