Assistant GM, and Team Counsel. Danny Ainge receives credit for trades, and Brad Stevens receives credit for player development, however Mike Zarren manages the CBA (collective bargaining agreement), specifically salary cap management. A few examples:
1. Signing free agents requires a team to be below the salary cap. Twice, BOS was able to sign (2) free agents, Al Horford & Gordon Hayward, because the team was below the salary cap.
2. Signing players to longer, however more reasonable contracts. Twice, BOS resigned its own players, Avery Bradley & Jae Crowder, to longer, however more reasonable contracts. Frankly, I thought Avery Bradley was an overpay, however in hindsight a bargain contract.
3. Trading for players on below the market contracts. IT, a two-time all-star made about 1/4 of a maximum contract.
