I have been trying to make sense of Doc's coaching. Last night, the best big man in the game was Perk. He had 4 points 6 rebounds 1 assist and 1 block in 18 minutes. He sat much of the second half until garbage time yet had only 1 foul. Al played very well last night 12 points and 10 rebounds in only 20 minutes of play. You would think with your best shooters bricking up the place you would want your best offensive rebounders out there on the floor. But yet, Doc played Blount (2 rebounds) for 20 minutes and he would have gotten more except for 6 fouls. Perk gets 2 fouls and Doc sits him for the rest of the game. Blount was still out there playing with 5 and 6 and it wasn't for his offense cause he was only 2 of 6 from the floor. And when he wasn't playing Blount (aka Stone Hands) he had Scalabrine in who was worse than terrible. Veal was 0 for 2 with no rebounds and some ugly ugly play. The games where he has given Perk starters minutes on the floor we have done well. He changes the attitude of the game. The games where he stashes him on the bench in favor of the soft centers we do terrible. I think I see a pattern... why can't Doc?
I was just watching the game over again and I think the best stretch of play of the night was when Perk and Al were on the floor together. There was one play that was just beautiful to watch.... Perk shot his baby hook which missed and Al came up with the O rebound. Al missed the put back and Perk got the O rebound and slammed it home. That just warmed my heart. Yet not long after that Perk took a seat until garbage time.
I just don't understand Doc. He says that Perk is the best rebounder. He says that Perk is earning more playing time with his play. Last night Perk was playing great, playing within the team effort and not forcing it and not drawing fouls. Yet Doc sits him. Same with Al. He has been playing great the past few games, including his defense and yet he still is getting spotty minutes.
Doc will have one game like NY where he seems to get it and his rotations are good and he sticks with the hot players. Then he will have 2 or 3 games where his coaching is just awful and the hot players sit on the bench while we watch Stone Hands turn the ball over 6 or more times and gather his 1 rebound for the game.
I would think that Danny is smart enough to see these inconsistencies and do something. Either get on doc's case or find a new coach who will not waste the potential that this team has.

u've hit the nail right on the head....doc doesnt get it, and all of us do...i feel the team would have more wins if one of us were coaching, we all watch these games closely and see wut is good for the team and what isnt....why the hell cant doc see it...doc yanked perk in the begining of the 2nd half after he missed a hook shot over yao....who cares if he misses a hook shot, hes doing EVERYTHING else out there, boards, great D...doc still cant get it thru his head that defense wins nowadays...if perk is doin bad on offense it deosnt matter cuz he makes our entire defense better, wen people drive to the hoop he blocks or changes the shot...wen blounts in he cant intimidate those penitrating players, and also cant defend any centers or get any rebounds....the only thing he can sometimes do is make his jumpers, and doc sees his shots going in and thinks that means hes a good player...thats just idiotic...thats like high school coaching or somethin...if u listen to a guy like larry brown all he talks about is rebounding and defense, and thats really how u win game, offense will be there on its own, especialy with the celtics..... Also i feel Van Gundy game planed for us because we beat them by 20 earlier in the year...it goes to show hes a way better coach...and thats why we will never win in the playoffs because the opposing coach is always gonna outcoach Doc...wen game planning is involved doc doesnt stand a chance, just like last year vs the Pacers...Carlisle clearly outcoached Doc.... ethier doc needs to figure out that playing perk and al is the way to win, or hes got to go...hopefuly they will trade blount so doc doesnt even have the option of puttiing him in... and anyone of u who goes to a celts game please go behind the bench and scream at doc that playing blount makes us a much worse team, i know im gonna do that, maybe if he hears it from the crowd he'll realize it

I cant wait until I see this starting lineup. Because this is the future imo.
West Pierce Ricky Al Perk
Bring Greene, Dickau, Allen, Reed, Gomes, Raef and whoever else off the bench. Scalabrine and Blount are not getting it done. Blount could be that if he wasnt such a (censored), and didnt play like he didnt give a !!!GREENIAC!!!, but at this point we really should try to find another big man who would be happy coming off the bench. Raef is struggling too which has made thigns worse. Neither Raef, Blount or Scalabrine should be getting significant minutes right now and that is exactly what they are getting.

If we make no trades, I also think that will be the starting 5 (for the time being, at least).
We've got to think positively. There must be a reason why Doc insists on sitting Perkins when it is so very clear that better things happen with Perkins on the court. There's got to be a reason. Maybe by doing this, Perkins' drive to get back on the court and dominate will be greater. Maybe Blount is a terrific practice player who looks awesome, but doesn't look the same in actual games.
I just don't see the benefits of playing Blount, whatsoever. He clearly is not playing as hard as he can and he's still allergic to rebounds (he sneezes violently every time one comes his way--poor guy). He hurts us in many ways because he doesn't add any offensive rebounds and he often lets defensive rebounds get back into the hands of the other team. He's also the worst at setting picks for our guys.
I would not complain at all if Blount collects DNP-CD's. Even if Perk and Big Al foul out of the game and we resort to using Justin Reed or Ryan Gomes at C, I would not complain if Doc elects to keep a fresh Blount on the bench.

I think i have half way figured out this Doc thing. Either he is trying to lose cause DA has told him to in order to save money and/or get a higher pick, and he won't be fired, or he is just a bad coach and will get fired. We'll know towards the beginning of next season. The only other thought I have is maybe he's only tanking half the season so his young guys will come out with a vengence in the second half, and maybe get a low playoff seed. That would allow them to still get a higher pick than otherwise and get their kids playoff experence against a goooood playoff team, which might be a good thing since this isn't their year anyway. In the mean time he gives tons of minutes to vets in an effort to trade them. 3 birds. One stone

Yeah, I hope the only reason BLount and Raef are getting so many minutes is because we are displaying them for a trade.

I think its management. Wyc is probably telling them to play them, since he is paying for them.

Last night at the press conference after the game Doc was complaining about only getting 5 offensive rebounds. This is pretty odd since he sat our 2 best rebounders for most of the game. Perk is our best rebounder and would have upped that total by at least 5 or more and yet he played 3 minutes. He looked good when he was in there with a rebound and an assist. Then he plays Al for 19 minutes.... If it is Perk's offense that is holding him back, Doc truly is an idiot. Offense is not a problem. Perk is a good enough passer that he can get it to the open man once he gets the rebound. Defense and rebounding is our problem... if every Celtics fan and most of the writers can see this, why can't our illustrious coach. Hopefully Blount will be gone by the trade deadline and he will have to play Perk more.
