Jaylen Brown averaged 6.6 ppg in 17 minutes as a rookie, even starting 20 games, as a substitute for the injured Avery Bradley. And we're expecting further development, and maybe even a breakthrough season from the sophomore.
But Jayson Tatum is not taking a back seat. Already receiving high praise from Pierce and Kyrie, for his advanced skill set and maturity, Tatum is poised and might be more NBA ready (from an offensive standpoint) as a rookie than Jaylen was as a rookie (one might argue that Tatum is more advanced even right now).
Playing time might not come early, as Tatum has to prove to Brad that he can play the level of defense Stevens demands. But at the same time, Coach needs points to win games, and may call upon young Tatum for that specific skill he possesses.
When it is all said and done, at the end of the year, who will wind up having a higher scoring average?

I'm gonna wimp out and say that Brown will average more in the first half of the season, but Tatum will average more in Feb, Mar, Apr.

Brown will be the better defensive player and Tatum will be the better offensive player.
