Poor Man's Draymond Green
Glenn "Big Baby" Davis
Jared Sullinger 2.0
No one's sure what to expect of Guerschon Yabusele, but I've got hopes for this 21 year old Frechmen.
For the record, I don't see his game mirroring Draymond's. Physically, they're both undersized PF's who can hit three's -- but Draymond can also defend and create plays a lot better than Yabusele. For the record, I'm also saying that Yabusele is not likely to become an All-Star. What I am saying is I have hopes that Yabusele will be a solid contributor for us, and be among the top 9 players on our team.
The reason I feel this way is because of what Yabusele is able to do with the ball. He has enough skills with his dribble drives to get a clean look at the basket, or draw the foul, that he can be considered a DECENT threat. In comparison, Marcus Smart, in the same exact situation, trying to dribble drive, I would say is below average because he doesn't have a enough skills to get clean looks at the basket, or draw fouls.
Yabusele has some craft, like the eurostep, and the spin move. He can also go left or right. He is also able to absorb contact and hesitate his release.
These are skills that will help him to have some success when he drives. And we know he is willing and able to knock down three's, which will open up opportunities for him to drive.

I'm also excited about Ojeleye. He played very well in Summer League and his defense was really good. He has the talent to fill in the void left by Crowder's trade. We have so many question marks but also every one of them has potential.

I like Ojeleye as a 3-D type, ala Jae Crowder. I feel Yabusele has a different set of skills. But i like both.

I'm hoping for a lot more from Yabu than Davis or Sullinger. He seems a lot more athletic than either, and with better range than both. Is basketball important to him? If he shows up in great shape that will tell me a lot.

If he shows up in great shape that will tell me a lot. Don't forget that Sullinger was darn good at times. Had it not been for his weight, and maybe his attitude, Sully could have been a 15 and 8 guy. I'd take that from Yabusele. Yup, he has better athleticism, and more of a threat on the breaks, both running and leading breaks. He's more versatile than Sully. That's why there's hope for Yabusele.

I thought Sullinger had really good hands, especially rebounding, but didn't do much for me otherwise. 15 and 8 ain't bad, especially for a bench guy, but until proven otherwise, I don't want to limit his potential, even if it's only in my own mind.

Yabusele is also more active than Sully, and darts around the court more sharply. Offensively, Sullinger had a good post up game, being able to get points down there. I think Yabusele will score in different ways.
Sully was good at rebounding, and I'd like to see Yabusele focus his energy here.

Sully's biggest problem was being out of shape and he would struggle to get up and down the court. He'd be winded in the 4th quarter every game. He had the talent but just couldn't stay in shape. Such a shame. Yabusele seems to be in better shape and more athletic and a better shooter.
