Can he be that guy?

He has the physical tools and the desire, but his experience/savvy still needs development. I think you'll see steady improvement though.

I liked the defense I saw from Semi Ojeleye in Summer League and I know that Brad did too. I know last week Brad mentioned that he was surprised by Tatum's defense.
Defense is my major worry about this team since we gave up our best defender in AB and then our next best defender in Jae. I know that we add a good defender in Morris, if he's not in jail. And we have added two good defenders and rim protectors in Theis and Baynes. So, maybe my worries are all for nothing. And Jaylen did play good defense in the playoffs, but he was inconsistent somewhat as can be expected from a rookie. But he works hard and is a smart kid so maybe he will be a lock down defender this season.
Now... the fight and heart thing.

Baynes is gonna really improve the defense in the limited minutes he plays. Dude is an general on the court, making sure all the other guys are in the right spot. With him, Smart and Morris, we still have some all-world defensive talent. And Brown can certainly get there.

With Kyrie and Gordon aboard, as well as Tatum (who is more advanced offensively than Brown), Brad may be looking to Jaylen primarily for D, rebounding, hitting that corner 3, and maybe some back cuts - in other words, filling Avery's role. From what I saw in summer league, Jaylen still has a long way to go to be a creator, whether for himself or others, but he can still be a big contributor.

For the Celtics to get to the next level, both Brown and Tatum need to step up in their roles that make more than an average starters with the possibility that one of them if not both become potential stars in this league. Brown definitely has the skill set and work ethic to become a very good defender. As long as he put the work in, I feel confident that he'll cover a good percentage of Avery's defensive assignments along with Smart.

Brad is publicly singling out Jaylen, probably for motivation. He (Brad) could have kept his thoughts internal, just within the team -- he didn't need to tell the whole world that he needs Jaylen to become a lockdown defender. But by doing so, now the pressure is on Jaylen's shoulders to accept the challenge issued by his coach -- and this is good kind of pressure.
I don't think Jaylen's the type to shy away from a challenge. If anything, it's a confidence booster, that your coach has that kind of confidence in you.

Jaylen made 2 outstanding defensive plays last night, which made me think he could possibly become our stud defender.
One was when he kept Kemba Walker from penetrating (by quickly sealing him off with his body), and then prevented him from getting into his comfort zone by staying in his hip pocket. This is no easy task because Walker is a deadly scorer who is ever so shifty and crafty. But Jaylen locked him down.
Next one was on Marvin Williams. Marvin is no Kemba Walker, but on that one play, he had better position on Jaylen, and looked like he would score. But Jaylen quickly recovered, reacted instantly, and blocked the shot out of bounds. It was another play that impressed me, and got me to think that Jaylen does have the potential to be a lockdown defender.
