If we can offer the greatest trade package (which most likely involves IT, high draft picks, and our beloved young ones), would you want to trade for Kyrie Irving?

No. I don't want a player who wants to be "the man" and would put that over team goals. I would contrast that with IT's all in for the team and all his recruiting for the Celtics. Kyrie's defensive rating last season was the same as Isaiah's but IT was more efficient on the offensive end. And it wouldn't just be IT - we'd be giving up a valuable young player plus a very valuable draft pick. No thanks.

If the reports about the asking price are true, we'd be giving up too much. Kyrie is an unbelievable talent, but I just don't see that he's that much of an upgrade over IT.

I voted no. Team chemistry is important. Besides, IT is probably on one of the greatest contracts ever for next season, considering his game.

I'd offer IT4/Crowder/Rosier and our own 2018 1st. No young core or possible lotto picks. Not nuts about Kyrie, but he's young, and he's on a favorable contract. Unlike IT4, Kyrie will still be in his 20s when Golden State's reign of terror hopefully ends.

I think GS reign will end much earlier than people think, because the repeater tax is really expensive, and there are few GMs that could absorb the cost as the cost of doing business.

I think it'll go 2-3 more years. Klay's deal is up in 2. Green is up in 3. But even if they lose one of those guys, they are still gonna be awfully good.

I'm still on the fence. I really like IT because of how clutch he is. This guy is 5'8", and can still average 29 ppg, and come up big in the 4th when it truly matters.
But, he's still a little guy, and you have to wonder how his body will hold up as he approaches 30.
Kyrie is bigger and taller, and will most likely have a longer career. He can score in bunches like IT, but doesn't take a pounding like IT does.
IT has a heart of a lion, not sure if I've ever heard that about Kyrie.

I will say that Kyrie has played damn well in big games down the stretch. You don't always notice him as much because James has the ball most of the time, but it was Kyrie who hit the winning shot vs GS in '16.
The thing that worries me is whether he'd be content to be one star among many, or if he has to be The Man - which seems to be what he's saying. With Hayward, Tatum, Brown, and next year's Net's pick, we're not being built for one guy to dominate.

I am not sure I would say Lebron James is not clutch, however when CLE needed a 4th quarter score, it was always Kyrie.

Not worth giving up assets as the upside is not much more than what we get from IT's production.

I'm not advocating Kyrie (not yet, maybe never), but if we think long term, Kyrie might make more sense. He should physically hold up longer than IT, and he's younger as well.

Kyrie has had some injuries. The concern I have with IT is that driving to the hole is a major part of his game, and anytime he could get hacked leading to a major injury.

That hip injury concerns me, though. That kind of injury affects his speed, jumping, and lateral movements.

Sounds like we DO have interest in Kyrie, but haven't made an offer yet. It also sounds like the Cavs are targeting Jayson Tatum in a trade package.
Per Woj:
“Boston has expressed interest in Irving and could offer the best combination of short-term (Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder) and long-term (Jaylen Brown, Tatum, picks) assets. The Celtics have made no formal offer, and it is against Boston's front-office DNA to push out front with the most generous offer. Boston knows that Cleveland is mostly intrigued with Tatum, but the sides have not formally discussed that deal, league sources said.”
