Will lightning strike twice in the same spot?
When we traded for Jae Crowder a few years ago, he was considered a non-essential piece -- just a throw in. Upon coming here, he has morphed into a valuable player who is sought after by other teams around the league. The transformation came as Crowder's defense emerged along with his 3pt shot. He's now considered one of the better 2-way players in the game.
Not many folks are expecting anything from Marcus Morris, much like the lack of attention Crowder received.
Morris is a good athlete with good size and dexterity. Decent quickness, fluid movements. He has basketball skills and IQ. He can score at all 3 levels (close up, midrange, 3's). It's just that he hasn't put it all together yet, for whatever reason.
But maybe this is where it happens.
The past 2 seasons with Detroit, he's basically been a 14 and 5 guy, playing 34 min/game.

I don't see it happening. He was a high first round pick with plenty more scouting done on him than there was on Jae. He is also older than Jae so hes hardly a candidate for a breakup role simply by changing teams. At least when Jae came to us, he was much younger and still had untapped potential. Plus Jae came during a rebuild where he was one of our main players. Marcus will be coming off the bench...though all that being said, I think having his 3p shooting and rebounding will be a positive off the bench for us.

The more I read and watch of him, I think he can have an impact off the bench, if that's the role we use him in. He's aggressive, an attacker. Also reading about his leadership and his positive influence on his teammates.
He could be an upgrade over Crowder.

I hadn't heard.

www.si.com/nba/2017/07/07/avery-bradley-marcus-morris-trade-celtics-pistons-criminal-trial-markieff-morris-suspensionUpcoming criminal trial for Morris and potential impact on his Celtics career Unfortunately for the Celtics, Morris also comes with legal baggage: he has a pending criminal law matter that could lead to a prison sentence, NBA suspension or both. Morris, along with his identical twin brother, Washington Wizards forward Markieff Morris, are scheduled to go to trial on August 21 in Maricopa County, Arizona, to face felony charges. The two brothers each face two charges for aggravated assault—temporary disfigurement.

I think a very under-appreciated aspect of this trade is the Marcus vs. Markieff matchup, especially in the playoffs. I very much hope the seedings work out for a Celtics vs Wizards re-match. Imagine the game getting chippy and having the twins square off against each other! Better yet, when a Wizard takes down Marcus the way they took down Olynyk, imagine the confused look on Markieff's face as he won't know whose defense he should come to. What would be even better than that is if Marcus commits a hard foul and the Wizard, in the heat of the moment, mistakes Markieff for Marcus and takes out his own teammate in retaliation! Could you get ejected for decking your own teammate? That would be priceless.

Twins on opposite sides of a rivalry where the teams genuinely dislike each other.

He fits the Celtics "dog" description.
As for his legal trouble. The Morris twins are saying that they didn't have anything to do with beating him up. So it's a he said, he said thing. It's hard to tell with things like that because so many times people will say a player did something hoping to get money from them. If he honestly beat up that guy then he doesn't seem to have the character that we would like on the team. But it's possible that he didn't. I'm sure that Danny checked into the situation before trading for him and was satisfied that he's not a bad guy. I don't think he'd want Morris around his young team if he was.
His teammates all sing his praises as a good teammate from what I can tell from reading stuff. So there's that.

That's great to hear about his defense on Lebron. He and Crowder tag teaming to guard Lebron should tire him out (hopefully).

From what I've seen when Lebron plays, what tires him out is when he has to guard a very good offensive player. He looked so worn down guarding 2-3 different GSW players that he couldnt generate as much offense.
