I miss him bad already.
Only shirt of a player I had.
Only poster of Celts in the boy's room was him and Smart together

I'll miss him too. I never enjoyed watching anyone play man-to-man D more than him. I remember a story from his rookie year when he was guarding Jameer Nelson, and pressing him full court. Nelson supposedly asked him "You're not going to do this all game are you?" Avery never complained, never got tired, always came back better every year, and was pretty clutch. He's also as close to a Curry-stopper as there is in the NBA. Someone is going to pay him well next year - I suspect someone in the West.
If true, this trade would free the necessary space to sign Hayward, which is a relief. There were reports that teams were trying to hold Danny up, knowing he had to trade someone.

It means we don't HAVE to trade away anyone else at the moment

It's gotta be hard, that first time you are traded from the team that drafted you, especially when you've already resigned with them once. Not to mention that he is close with IT. And you go from a team on the rise, to a team currently going nowhere. I doubt he'll be in Detroit more than one season, and hope he finds a good home next year.

I've known that we had to give up one player. I knew that it would likely be either Jae or Avery but seeing it in print that he is gone really hurts. I'm still not over losing Perk. I don't do well with losing players who have been with the Celtics long time, especially ones we draft and watch grow up.
I know we had to do it to sign Hayward but that still doesn't make losing Avery any easier to take. Avery is a Celtic. He always carried himself like a professional and I love h is defense. I sure will miss him and hope he does well with the Pistons and gets a good payday next season. I feel sorry he has to play for Stan VanGundy this season.

Yeah, this bothers me more than losing Olynyk (a lot more).
Avery is a true professional. Never complained. A real good guy to boot.

It should get interesting when the Celtics and Wizards play. Marcus on Celtics Markieff on Wizards and the two teams hate each other...

Moving Bradley made sense on multiple levels.
He was going to become really expensive real soon.
And while Crowder and Smart can play multiple positions, Bradley was primarily a 2 guard only. His ball handling improved a lot, but I never felt comfortable with him as a ball handler.

What I'd like to know is if Marcus Morris was a target, a guy we wanted because of his style of play, his character or whatever. Or did we get him only because of the financial aspect?

Whilst it is sad to lose Avery and his all-NBA defense...this move is likely welcomed by him as it gives him the opportunity to become one of the primary scoring options in Detroit..it sets him up as one of their main players in a contract year. If he explodes and average 18-20 PPG, he is going to get paid VERY well...you're likely looking at his next deal being a 4 year 100mil+ deal. Its something we can't afford..

Surprised, however someone out of the three (Crowder, Smart) was going to be traded. Danny was limited, because it had to be for a player less than $8m.
Side note: I did not think Bradley was a good player when drafted. He made himself into a good, if not great player. I will miss him in green.

And he'll still work and reach higher levels. It's just unfortunate the business side of the game restricts us and causes us to make moves that aren't ideal.

I do wonder how this will affect IT...given that Bradley always handled the top guards against the opposite teams. Does this mean we'll see Smart start more often to help cover for IT?

Yeah ,that might be the best option for now. Rozier, depending on how much he's improved this summer, could take Bradley's role. Or we start a taller 2 guard, like Hayward or Jaylen.

Crowder, Hayward, Jaylen, Smart, and even Tatum give us so much flexibility with their ability to play multiple positions that I'm intrigued to see what Stevens does with it. I'm assuming he'd love to throw out an all 5 lineup of 3 point shooters even if that means playing extremely small depending on the matchup.
Obviously, Bradley was a bit limited in regards to playing multiple positions. He's that type of player you wish you could keep where he's at (contract and role), but players obviously have goals for more so he was eventually going to outgrow his role and his spot on this team.
