(* Have to update this since we no longer own Brooklyn's pick)
We own both of these teams' the Lakers' first round pick.
Brooklyn's is unprotected LA's is protected, and if it falls between 2 - 5, we get it
We'll need to watch the bottom dwellers of the NBA to see who's tanking and trying to steal away our top picks.
I think in the east, the Knicks might be bad next year, maybe even challenging the Nets for the bottom of the east. The Magic will probably be there too.
In the west, Phoenix should be able to win more than 24 games as Devin Booker continues to solidify his stardom. Add in Josh Jackson and this team should be better. Sacramento should be better, as they have been very active this summer (they've added George Hill and Zach Randolph, and drafted De'Aaron Fox). Minnesota should be much better, as they've acquired All-Star Jimmy Butler, as well as solid big man Taj Gibson.
The Mavericks and the Pelicans might be the bottom dwellers of the West.
The Lakers have seemed to improved their roster to some degree from last year. They've drafted Lonzo Ball, a potential transcendent player, and they traded for Brook Lopez.
A lot can happen between now and the end of next season. Celtics fans are hoping the ping pong balls will land our way so that we can have the [HASH]1 and the [HASH]2 pick at the very best.

Brooklyn made a max offer to Otto Porter...I hope the Wiz match it because Porter does improve them and I'd rather they not improve...

I'd prefer if they matched and kept Porter but given that Wall and Beal are on max deals, this would severely restrict them from improving on the bench.

Yeah, and that's the challenge they're going to have to face. Losing Porter will create an even bigger problem for them. Which is good for us I'm really hoping that Lopez will not make a big impact on LA's win loss record. I mean, he was with the Nets last year, and they ended up with the [HASH]1 pick, so it's not like Lopez is a game changer. But still, I worry that he'd help LA improve some. We need to have another great draft. That'll solidify our future.

Hoping tank commander Brook Lopez help the celtics get another top 5 pick.

Brooklyn traded for Allen Crabbe. He should improve that team a smudge.
I don't know if they'll be the worst team, but hoping the lottery balls fall our way still. Need to get a top 4 pick.

The season is on the verge of starting, and many feel the Lakers will be one of the worst teams in the league, despite what they've tried to do this summer.
All we need is for the Lakers' to finish among the 5 worst teams, and we'll have a great chance to land a pick between 2 - 5.
If we're fortunate to get a pick in that range, DeAndre Ayton would be a good pick. To me, he's a cross between a more nimble LaMarcus Aldridge and David Robsinson with a deeper jumpshot.

LAL have not looked good in preseason. Ingram has not made any progress. Ball looks out of shape. BRK has looked surprisingly good, however the pick is spent and Irving looks good as advertised.

Lakers are hovering around the 9th worst record in the league, but a couple of the teams with worse records (Memphis especially) have a decent chance of passing them as they get players back. It still looks like a long shot at a 2-5 pick unless they have an injury.

I expect LAL to lose now just as much as I expect BOS to win now. Right now, ranked [HASH]5 from the bottom.

Jan 6: Lakers have 2nd worst record in the league. Looking at the standings, and the "last 10 games" stat, the Lakers appear to have a good chance of finishing with one of the three worst records in the league, along with Atlanta and Orlando. Sacro might slip into that group too, putting Lakers somewhere in the bottom 4. Memphis gets Conley back soon, and the rest of the bad teams are winning half their games recently. According to the article below, under lottery rules Boston has an 80% chance of getting the Lakers' pick if the standings remain the same. I was skeptical earlier in the year, but it's starting to look like a real possibility. www.sbnation.com/nba/2018/1/4/16849060/celtics-lakers-picks-nba-draft-2018

ATL is last in the East. LAL has talent; ATL has no talent, but well coached and plays hard.
