Sure it would have been great to have Paul George and Hayward (we still don't know about Hayward), but it's not the end of the world. In all actuality, our future has never been brighter. Why? Because we still have our 2 lottery picks, that could net us the [HASH]1 and [HASH]2.
Look, as much as we could have improved our roster this summer, we still would be underdogs to CLE and GS. Trading away one, or both of those valuable picks would have helped us now, but will hinder building our future foundation.
In 5 years, we could be what the Warriors became when they drafted Curry, Thompson and Draymond.
As currently constructed, we're still a Top 4 team in the East, and we're in position to play at this level for at least a couple more seasons. But under the surface we have a dynasty being built with every high lottery player we add.

The Warriors built through the draft and developed their players. That's what the Celtics are doing now. The PG to OKC and other moves that have been made so far make the Lakers pick possible to end up in that 2-5 range. I do believe that PG will go to the Lakers next year and maybe even LeBron - who knows but for this year, I don't think they'll be that good, especially in a stacked western conference.
Regardless of that pick, the Nets pick will once again be a top lottery pick. In the meantime, we have some good young players who are going to be getting better and have a very high ceiling. Brown, Tatum, and Zizic a year better along with the other young players that we keep. I like the future of the Celtics.

Warriors have a window of just 2-3 more years. Curry just signed a monster deal, Durant won't be taking anything under 30mil a year (thats for certain), Klay is a FA in 2 years and he is another max candidate...there is no financial way they can keep Curry, Durant, Klay, Draymond AND also Iguodola who signed for 3 years whilst paying them market value. Even if some of them took a discount, there is just no room whatsoever.

So let the Warriors price themselves out of contention, and let the Cavs lose Lebron to free agency or old age. In the meantime, we build.

I know they'd be paying a ton in luxury tax, but the owners may not care if they continue to win.

I know they'd be paying a ton in luxury tax, but the owners may not care if they continue to win. They could with those Bird rights they own but at some point they need bench players and every single bench player will cost them triple in tax what they would pay the bench player. Paying 2mil to a vet player to warm the bench but being hit with a 6 mil tax bill just for that. They'll end up with baseball sized team salaries + tax which almost negates any profit they'd make. I think at the end of the day, these owners ...as much as they are fans...are still businessmen who bought the team to make money. Often they buy as a group and not all in the group may share those sentiments about winning at all costs. Those that buy alongside investment groups would feel that even less since their investors only care about a return.
