Brooklyn shipped out Brook Lopez, their best player, and received D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov -- 2 nice players, who I don't think will turn Brooklyn's fortune around.
How will they do this year?
It is in Brooklyn's best interest to remain a bad team this year, even though their pick belongs to us. Reason being, from next year on, they control their picks. They need to replenish their tool box by getting high lottery talent.
They'll just screw themselves up by trying to win games this year, and in the next few years.

I think the odds are in favor of them finishing with one of the league's worst records. Vegas says the Nets, Magic, Sun and Kings will be the worst four. Russell and Mozgov were on a terrible Laker team that arguably had more talent than the Nets team they are joining.
We should be hoping that the Nets are the worst and the Kings are somewhere around 5-6, not bad enough to have good odds of moving into the top 3 in the lottery, so that they're bad again in '19.

I wonder if they made the trade, thinking it'll worsen them for the near future?

Lopez was not in the future plans, hence traded.
Every team got better, the Nets got worse. My prediction: last (by a lot).

Most of the lottery teams picked up a good player in the draft, so that should help them a bit.
Philly will bave Embiid, Simmons and Fultz now. They should be better than last year. Lakers got Ball, along with Brook Lopez, that should help. Phoenix got Josh Jackson, they'll be better Sacramento got Fox and Justin Jackson (won't count on Giles helping much). They should be somewhat improved. Magic -- well, I don't think they did anything in the draft Dallas got Dennis Smith jr.
Brooklyn got Jarret Allen, but he's far away from contributing. But then again, they have D'Angelo and Mozgov. The needle may not move too much for them.

I thought Attkinson got the most out of the team last year, and he was one of the better first year coaches. Unfortunately, talent wins, and Brooklyn is not very talented.
