First I've seen Rudy Gay connected with the Celtics but today saw a couple of people post that he may be Plan D if the Celtics strike out on Hayward, Griffin, and PG13 And I'd welcome this! Danny is not interested in making dumb moves, so there's obviously a reason why he thinks this would be a rational acquisition. Plus, Brad does well with reclamation projects (Jordan Crawford, Evan Turner), so he may he able to resurrect Gay's career and give it new life.

I don't know. Gay has never done much for me. I think I'd rather see minutes go to Jaylen and Jayson. (Bad idea for a nickname: The Green Jays)

He is 30, last year hurt with a major injury. Talented player, not much heart.

Prefer to go with the Brown/Tatum if we cannot get those other players. Might as well proceed with resigning IT at that point.

(Bad idea for a nickname: The Green Jays) A lot would have to go wrong for them to get to plan D... I'd like to go with Jaylen and Jayson as well. The more playing time they get the quicker they will develop and become stars. Yeah, I'd have to pass on the Green Jays LOL. I've seen them referred to as 7/11 as well for their numbers.

Maybe the rational is Gay would be more impactful than Gerald Green, who was maybe the 4th or 5th wing?

Yes, Gay would probably be more impactful than Green I think. Although, I really like Green and he was really good to mentor Jaylen last season and also is a very good friend of Isaiah's.

Salaries count. Gay @20million+, Green @vet minimum. According to Hoopshype salaries, Gay made 13 mil last season, and this summer is a free agent. Again, if we're looking for a rational behind this possible move, Danny and Brad want to go position-less, as much as possible. And with Gay you have a 6'9" guy who can shoot from the perimeter, handle the ball, go coast to coast, can make passes. And the opening post does say that Gay would a fall back option, in the event that we don't hit on our primary targets.

Cant justify the salary for Gay when our younger guys could be better off developing and challenging the likes of the Warriors in a few years.

We have to keep in mind that this isn't an idea that fans conjured up. This is what Steve Kyler has been hearing, that if we miss out on our primary targets, Ainge may elect to go after Gay. And Ainge most likely bouncing this off of Brad, which means Brad might be ok with the move too. Again, the name of the game is versatility. Taller guys with ball handling abilities who can pass and shoot.

If BOS misses out on the targeted FAs, why not sign players on a short-term (1-year) deal, and target FAs next summer?
