You can see the concerted effort Ainge and Co. are making to fill our roster with more "dogs".
While Tatum may not have the typical dog personality off the court, his oncourt character is very much like that. He gets after it pretty good and doesn't shy away from the spotlight. He steps up to the challenge and rises to the occasion, as he proved by playing his best during the ACC tournament and regionals.
Semi Ojeleye is a dog -- a mean one at that. A real tough guy.
Kadeem Allen isn't physically like Ojeleye, but he plays mean and aggressive like Semi.
And then we have our new international player, Daniel Theis-- another dog guy. He plays mean and aggressive too.
We all know about Zizic, a dog type fighter. We know Yabusele is built like a tank and he gets after it on the court.
Jaylen Brown won't back down from anyone, and neither will Marcus Smart or Jae Crowder, or Terry Rozier.
Even little Isaiah Thomas will pick fights with NBA big men.
Now, we do have a poodle on the team, and that would be Kelly Olynyk. I don't know if we're keeping him.
We have a chihuahua named James Young, a little yapper, and he may not be here too much longer.
That seems to be what we're after -- the dog mentality on the court. And we added more in this draft.

Great post. I'm a big fan of players who are dogs... starting with my favorite dog of all, Kendrick Perkins.
I can't wait for Summer League.

Futlz is an incredible scorer, but I don't know if I see a dog in him. I don't see the fight in him.
Maybe that's one reason why Ainge didn't fret over not taking him.

They compared Fultz to Simmons from last year as guys who if they were so good, why didn't their college teams be more successful with them on their roster? In college, one elite player should lead to a NCAA tournament bid and some sort of run in it. But both Simmons and Fultz put up good numbers on bad teams, which shows a lot of how as both are PG's they don't make anyone else better. Even the most overrated superstar in the last two decades IMO Carmelo won an NCAA Championship with not a whole lot of help. In other words, Danny doesn't want guys who care about empty stats, he wants guys who care about winning at the highest level and winning championships.

I'm pretty sure this factored into the decision to move the #1 pick. Both Simmons and Fultz are similar in that way -- they don't take over a game and will a team to victory. I remember watching Simmons and thinking he needs to take over; the game is slipping away and if he'd just impose his will and score the way he's capable, LSU would win the game. But he'd always pass it up, and eventually would lose the game. I wonder how many of Markelle's points came when they needed it. Like key baskets that would either stop the bleeding, or baskets that would crush an opponents spirits, or buckets to take the lead in a tight game, etc? On the other hand, Tatum had many pressure packed moments, and he did good things.

Just came across this about Kadeem Allen. youtu.be/Q6laVPx575MI can see him earning a 2 way contract with the Red Claws to replace Avery or Smart if they are traded or if we can't afford them when new contract time comes up.

Kadeem wasn't even that great at Arizona. I think we need to lower our expectations here. If he does really well it implies Demetrius Jackson didn't take a step forward.
