Being that Paul George could be a short termed rental for whichever team trades for him, I don't think GM's will be offering a whole lot.
I wonder if this package would be one of the top offers Indiana receives:
Bradley Crowder Rozier 2018 Boston 1st round pick
Why would we offer this? Because I think Bradley is the odd man out next year with his contract extension due. We trade Crowder because we'd be getting George, and we need to make space for Jaylen to get more playing time. Rozier is nice, but replaceable. And the pick, which would be in the mid 20's, is to sweeten the deal.
And if George ends up walking away after just one year with us, oh well. It's a gamble I'm willing to take considering the alternative (losing Bradley for nothing). But the thinking is, if we can get George here ALONG with Gordon Hayward, to join Horford and IT, we can convince him that we're the team to beat.
IT Hayward George Horford ? (Zizic)
Smart Fultz Jaylen Nader

I don't think we'd be able to fit in Hawyard on a max-level deal with that scenario. We'd have to have Zizic spend another year overseas, or possibly move Smart or Jaylen for future picks.

It would all depend on the funky math on how much we are allowed to go over the cap. I know a team can offer the player the max amount if they are drafted by said team, and that is reduced if that player is acquired by trade. But it would also depend on if those guys would be willing to take less to play for championships for a 5 year window or so. It makes sense to us, but it gets fuzzy when ego's get involved. If that were possible and we could convince George to stay green and that the Fakers are clueless (which they are) and won't compete for championships any time soon, I would love that trade. We would be more athletic and would possibly have one of the best offenses in the game. And we know Brad will get them to play defense.

But to sign Hayward we would have to stay under the cap, since he is a free agent. We'd need to get our cap # to about 72 mill, but the players that DM mentioned plus the roster spot cap holds would come to about 74 million or so. So we'd have to lose one lower salaried player.

Maybe Hayward takes a little bit less than the max to make it work?
If need be, we swap Rozier and Smart (we keep the former).

If you swapped Rozier for Smart and kept Zizic overseas I think it would work.
I can't see any way Hayward would leave Utah and accept less than a max. He'd already be losing money by walking away from a hometown max deal.

I don't want to give up 3 good players and a draft pick for a player who doesn't want to play in Boston and who will bolt for LA after just a year. I'd rather keep the assets and sign Hayward if he decides to come to Boston. I can see a lineup of Fultz, (smart, rozier, IT, AB or Brown), Hayward, Crowder, and Zizic being a very tough unit to play against.
I just don't like breaking up the core and giving up too many young and promising players for a player who really doesn't want to be in Boston. I also don't like giving up too much for Butler because I don't think he is that good.

(Zizic) Smart Fultz Jaylen Nader I like this scenario as Celtics are able to move toward cashing their assets to get themselves a great player rather sticking with the current average-good players rotation. They can continue riding the current roster as built right now but, a decision would have to made next off season as Bradley, Zeller, IT, and Smart contracts are up. I prefer Ainge make a decision now where he can get some value for players like Bradley/Smart rather than lose them based on not paying for their market value.

Hey, good to see you again, JHVOS! Long time no see.
Yeah, that's the rational behind this thread. We have assets on the team and at some point we need to explore using assets to gain greater talent. It may be a huge gamble, but the gamble could turn out good for us.

Yeah, Horford would make it tough too, but I was thinking of Crowder in a more defensive unit. It's like a big small ball lineup.
