I remember a time when I was infatuated with thoughts of building a dynasty through the draft. This was back in 2005, and by that time we had Perk, Big Al, Gerald Green, Tony Allen and Delonte, and I thought with enough time, this starting unit would compete for championships.
Luckily for us, Ainge knows a whole lot more than I do, and traded almost everyone to get KG and Ray. Danny wasn't going to wait around until Perk and Co developed into All-Stars.
But here I am, thinking once again about how our draft picks are going to turn into stars and carry us to another title. So allow me to day dream:
We begin with Ante Zizic. Some say that if he was in this year's draft, he'd possibly be a top 10 pick. Of course, that doesn't mean sure stardom, and I'm not expecting that anyways. At the very least, I'd be happy if he turns out to be Robin Lopez (the lesser talented of the Lopez twins). A lane clogger who is effective on the boards and long enough to bother shots at the rim.
Next we have Jaylen Brown. I've tapered my expectations for him, and I'll say that he turns out to be a [HASH]3 guy on a contending team -- a guy who contributes in a number of ways, but isn't great at any one area.
This year, we end up drafting Markelle Fultz, who becomes a true scoring threat; a guy capable of averaging 25 ppg.
Next year, with Brooklyn once again being a terrible team, we end up with another top 4 pick, with a shot at Michael Porter, DeAndre Ayton or Luka Doncic. Porter might be a more dynamic Blake Griffin (think of Griffin with a killer pull up jumper and 3 pt shot), Ayton is a 7 footer with incredible length and agility who has a smooth jumper, and Doncic is an extremely young 6'8" European PG who can do everything fundamentally well.
Best case scenario is we draft Porter and he becomes our alpha dog.
[HASH]1 Porter
[HASH]2 Fultz
[HASH]3 Jaylen
That is a potentially dangerous Big 3. Throw in Zizic and we have our lane enforcer. Now all we need is a knockdown perimeter shooter to play SG.
